Rear brakes almost gone

I just bought an 06 M45 almost 3 weeks ago from an Infiniti dealer. Stupid me forgot to check the brake pads to see if they were OK or needed to be changed soon. So, my question is, how much would the dealer charge me for this and should I just get the fronts done at the same time? Do you think the dealer would goodwill it and not charge me since I just bought it from them recently?

It's a wear item but you could ask, couldn't hurt.If you have to change them, buy the pads online and change them yourself. It's very simple work.

is there a DIY instruction with pics. I'd hate to get into it then find out that I have no clue what i'm doing. Never changed brakes but I've done other things on cars. How would i do the resurface on my own? I'd have to take the rotors to a shop? I'm pretty good with stuff like that. Any help is appreciated.

3 weeks?? I would definitely say something to the dealer. He cant sell you a car with no back brakes. Theres got to be some rule against that.

Just found the service manual. I don't know how comfortable I would feel doing this on my own for the first time. Maybe just seems difficult. Where is the best place to get OEM brake pads. Anyone live in the DMV area and want to do it for me?

I wouldn't say there arent any but they look very low when i'm looking through the rims. I have a M45 sport so the rims have big enough gaps for me to see the size of the brake pads. I was thinking if they were that low and passed MD inspection then maybe they arent that bad but they look very thin.

In Texas they have a 'Lemon Law' I would check the local laws when buying a used vehicle, and see if having bad brakes apply.

Yea, I need to take my car in because the driver seat moves when applying brakes or taking off as well as the center console arm rest on the passenger side moves with any pressure on it without pulling on the lever. Like it has no resistances. So I'll bring up the rear brakes when I take it in.

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

Best cost source for OEM pads and other OEM items: http://www.everythinginfiniti.com ... ask for Joe Tsensky if you call. Joe and Scottsdale Infiniti have been a NICO supporter for years!

I recently got my rear brake pads replaced and rear rotors turned (at 28000 miles, there was only 3 mm of pad left and the rotors were rough). Since it was a wear-out item, I just had it done at the local Nissan dealer. Don't know if it was a good price or not, but the total was $150.

Don't you think the dealer should of changed the brakes before I bought it 3 weeks ago. I bought it at infiniti dealer but was not certified. If they are as low as I see it, it shouldnt have passed inspection.

The maryland inspection could have been preformed by the dealer themselves... Im not saying they did anything wrong...but its worth saying hey, I just bought the car here and the back brakes arent good, do you think you could change them in the interest of guaranteeing me as a future customer. The worst thing they can do is say no.

...also, I hope you have a positive experience at your dealer. (Im assuming you got the car from Jim Coleman in Bethesda?) There are plenty of other infiniti dealers around... Infiniti of Tysons Corner is not far. Alexandria, Chantilly.

Yes I bought from Jim Coleman Infiniti in Bethesda. Have you dealt with them? If not have you heard positive things about them?

I've dealt with Jim Coleman. The people are nice, but don't expect them to go out of their way an inch. I guess most dealerships don't.

I'm also glad I didn't get suckered into buying an M from them. I ended up buying a certified preowned M35x from Colorado with 11k miles and had it shipped to me. I saved 3 grand over the 2006 non-X JC wanted to sell me with 26k miles on it. That's after shipping too. But then this is the DC area. Didn't expect anything different.

Now I'm considering all new brakes on the car and I'm dreading to hear what JC is going to want to charge for labor.

Well I have an appointment with them on Wednesday. When I called, I mentioned the brakes so we'll see what comes out of it. If they don't replace it, I'll think about doing it myself or get a friend to help me.

I havent dealt with or heard anything about Jim Coleman. I bought my car from Infiniti of Chantilly, and the first service I took my car in for was fine. They charged me nothing for oil and filter, fixing the seat movement, and the exhaust rattle (which isnt fixed, but whatever) which was warranty work of course. But I expected them to "find" a bunch of other things I "should" do, but they didnt.

My father lives in howard county, and he takes his car to JBA Infiniti in Elicotty City. Theyre good. They never try to sell you anything repair wise. He got a good deal on his car as well.

@InfinitiMe: please post how much you get quoted. Im considering new brakes as well.
