I know the piston turns. I can do this with pliers no prob.

But

The rubber boot is staying fixated and is binding as I'm turning.

Its turning with the piston. Is the boot normally fixated to the piston and turns within the caliper, or is it fixated in the caliper and allows the piston to spin?

the boot should allow the piston to turn freely but over time it just sticks to the piston. I ruined both of my boots thay way but didnt really care. spray some good penetrating lube on there and they will free up. plus do yourself a favor and spend the relatively small amount that it costs to get the tool for compressing the pistons back in the caliper. there are a couple different types and they are all relatively inexpensive. it will save you a lot of grief trust me

thnx for letting me know which turns freely of which.

Just ran a small flathead screwdriver around the inside of the boot and then gave it a turn...alls well.

Aside from that, the needle nose I had certainly did the job, I had my brakes done in minutes.
