I just recently replaced my rear brakes on my 95 240sx. While trying to put the caliper back in, the rubber boot on the piston came off. So i'm wondering if it's safe run without it? Are there any auto parts stores or dealer that sell the rubber boot because there's a smell coming from the rear brakes. Is there a special name for for the rubber boot? Thanks in advance.

don't run without the boot. The boot keeps the crap on the road from scoring the side of the piston as well as keeping junk from damaging the inner seal on the piston. get the rear caliper rebuild kit and remember to have some clean brake fluid handy to lube up the seals and o-rings.

You can buy a rebuild kit for around $10 and it will include the boot along with everything else you need except elbow grease to fix your caliper ... done it twice now ... works for awhile, but if the boot has been shot for any lenght of time you may need to buy new calipers because of scaring on the piston
