I drove 5 hours from where I live for Thanksgiving and had to stop suddenly a few times on the highway, as I arrived at my destination I noticed that my rear rotors (at least one of them) was screeching as I put the brakes on.

SO I want to buy some pads and do an emergency install here, but I have never done brake work on my car. I just wanted to know how much there was to putting pads in my Maxima...I know some cars are harder than others.

ANY INSTRUCTIONS I would appreciate, pics are helpful too. Thanks a ton, I"ll be here tommorow and the day after and I don't want to drive back with no pads in the back!!

For an emergency pad swap:

1. Put car in gear (I assume its a manual).2. Jack it up.3. Remove the wheel.4. Unbolt the calipers.5. Remove pads and clips.6. You need a special tool from an auto parts store to push the brake piston back in.7. Replace pads and clips. Put the caliper back on.

When you get home, you MUST bleed the brakes, clean the hardware, and grease the sides of the pads!!!!!!!

You do need a special tool to do Maxima brakes. After you take off the caliper, remove the top off the brake reservoir before you use the tool to compress the piston. This will allow you to compress the piston and replace the pads without bleeding the brakes.

Late on this one... That pretty much covers it... You might want to consider swapping in some new rotors or get your old ones resurfaced. If your rear pads have been scratching for a while you probably have some deep grooves back there.

No. If he is just replacing pads and rotors he shouldn't have to mess with the E-brake at all.
