Are there brake shims that clip onto the pads and then clip the pads onto the rear caliper? (my FSM shows that there are shims and I can't make the pads clip in they way they are) I went to Autozone and Advance Auto and they both gave me blank stares when I asked for brake pad shims. I have the retainers. Am I retarded I can't figure out my rear brake pad install? I did my timing chain and replaced a cam and I can't even figure out brake pads. Sad, sad, sad.

yes, there are retainers. ask for a brake hardware kit at advance. autozone says they dont carry them. dude at advance didn't know either, i had to give a part number from their website. they have them for $14 but will more than likely have to order. i got a rear set from the dealer for $20.

Thanks dude, but I have the retainers. What I'm asking about/looking for are shims that are pictured in my FSM. Anyone know?

Yeah...I ordered them for my s14 as well...i had to get them from a dealer...I totally forgot which one, but there should be a nico sponser from texas that's got them for about 50 dollars for the front and rear...but i wouldnt buy the...er...i think it's the rears that didnt fit...anyway, i dont think those shims make much difference...i only had one piece though, not the 3 like the shop manual has...

i have replaced both 213 and s14 rears and have never used shims. in the brake hardware kit i got fromthe nissan dealership there were retainers and some other plate looking things, but i dont see how how they would fit onto the back of a pad. i have always just used the retainers and have never had any noise or performance issues.
