On my '90 240 SX hatchback, I have identified the source of a very loud rubbing noise as my left-rear brake. The noise only occurs when I am backing up and applying the brakes. I have had the rear rotor and brake pads replaced. They all look fine from what I can see, ie. adequate thickness to the pads and a nice surface on the rotor face. When I apply the emergency brake, which I rarely use, the noise occurs again but seems to go away for awhile. I'm stumped! I'd like to remove the caliper and pull the rotor off and have a look behind, but don't know how. I do not know how the emergency brake works on this model. Does it actuate the caliper, or is there another system? Any advice would be most welcome.
