My Q had both lower brake lights out but the trunk (or inside self) light was working....police stopped me but were impressed at the condition on my 91 q45 so they gave me a warning. I checked all fuses and changed bulbs...sockets were ok. Bulb contacts had melted slightly...and no doubt drawn extra current that had melted one of the brake light sensor contactson the circuit board. The sensor is easy to remove (left side of trunk latch (just remove plastic and fiber housing). The sensor can be fixed if it is just a matter of melted solder on the contact. The contact that went bad was the left lower I believe. My $5.00 soldering gun and .01 cents worth of solder fixed it. Please see the pics and look at the sensor first before you pay up for a new one. It's easy to pull apart! The money you save can go to new fuel injectors !!! Good luck guys.

PS. Sorry guys I couldn't fiqure out how to attach my photos. If anyone knows let me know how and I'll post them.

You have to host the pictures somewhere, like http://www.picasaweb.google.com and then link them in your post.

You would cut and paste the link into the post, highlight it, and then click the "image" button above the text box where you're typing. It looks like this:

Good going on fixing that sensor!
