I am now driving the 2007 M35 with Journey package. Didn't really think about it but once I took the car off the lot, I reaized that I should have purchased it with the NAV system so that I could get the backup camera.

Is there a way to install the backup camera into the existing screen/system?

Welcome to NICO!

In the earlier models of the 2003 and 2004 M45, the screen size was different between the NAV and non-NAV models was different - I do not know about the software (in the TCU and other places for the camera) is the same! This may be an issue in the later models too.

In other words, if you just buy the OEM Infiniti camera and install it (assuming that the wiring is in place too!), I just don't know for sure if it will work.

You could get a friendly Infiniti dealership to try it out and see what happens.

An alternative is to get one of the newer after-market cameras and use that - there was a review in Consumer Reports some time back (and I think that particular test is available for viewing on their web site http://www.consumerreports.org). Some of these products use wireless connections for the video feeds to make installation easier. Screens are smaller than even the non-NAV screen, but may be sufficient for you.

Please let us know what you end up trying and doing!

SZhosain,

Too add, i looked into this as well. And the dealership told me that the monitors on NAV and Non Navs are different and you cant just get a OEM camera and plug it in.

However I'm still exploring what after market camera can be plugged in. DO u know of any?

as far as I know it's a 7" screen for the non-nav, and 8" screen for the nav.

if you find an after-market solution that works, let me know!

i went to like 10+ Audio/Video car system places on canal st. (for those non-NYers, it is a place by chinatown where there are tons of deal on audio systems) 2day.

What i have found is that most factory screen are setup to have no video input ability. Therefore other than for factory designed purposes the dash LCD is as good as garbage.

Right now i'm think about whether to implant a screen/camera/dvd/Navi in my rearview mirror. They guy showed me some cars that he did it for and it was pretty cool. But i dont know if the $450-500 i would spend on it would be worth it.

Another option is visor mirrors. I saw a good deal on these $250 for a PAIR of 7" w/ built in DVD and remote. But another $120 for a camera and it still isnt cheap.
