Good day...

We tow a small trailer with our 2003 G35 sedan and it works great. There is some sag from the hitch weight and I would like to keep the car level when towing.

I can't find any company that makes Air bags specific to the G but I see no reason why they can't be used if I can find a size that is similar. The only issue I see is the upper rear coil spring support. It is cone shaped and would have to be trimed so the Air bag has a flat surface to push against on the upper side.

From a technical point of view does this seem doable.

Note... the bags I have in mind fit inside the rear coil springs.

Thnxs for and advice or tips

My personal concern is that the GVWR for the G is pretty low. On my coupe, I have around 750lbs of "free weight" before I max out it's capacity. I think the sedan has a little bit more.

We are still within the GVWR and axle ratings on the G with trailer attached.

Is there any way to use the hard rubber conical piece that the coil pushes against?

My understanding of airbag fitment is very limited, but I do have a little experience with the G35 suspension.

I am not sure. I would assume the air bag needs to push against a flat surface but I could be wrong. Wondering if the cone part of the upper support can be cut off. Why is the cone there. Just for alignment of the coil when being installed??

Here are the ones used on a Pontiac Grand prix that has similar open coil rear springs...

Here they talk about cutting the rubber bump stop on one application...

Towing trailers with an independent rear suspension and isolated rear subframe creates forces on system that it was not designed to function with for long. Whether damages show up before 100k is a coin flip.

Correct.. That is why I had a towing specialist / hitch specialist ( that worked with an Infinity dealership) custom build a hitch to take all issues into consideration. After 4 years of towing all is well and looking forward to 10 more years of the same.

Any more opinions on installing the Air Bags?
