really odd problem

Okay so sometimes when the car is running ill hear a squelling comming form the engine bay..When i open the hood, it stops.If i close it, it starts right back up again.It seems to be comming from the from....IM kinda lost on this one...I havent really looked at it a lot but im at school and very bored so i figured Id see if anyone has any ideas. Thanks

is it DEFINITELY starting/stopping BECAUSE you are opening/closing the hood? or is it just a frustrating coincidence. mine squeals a little too. sounds like a belt i guess i'll replace my belt when i replace my worn piston rings....

Really the only squealing that could be coming from the engine bay is from the belts. Either one of your belts are loose, or one of them is worn out.
