Tried posting in technical but not receiving any help there so will try here. This is probably the correct area anyway.:pface Ok, quick rundown, few months ago the psngr window just quit working altogether. No sound, no movement, no nothing. About 2 wks ago started working fine, like nothing ever happened. A little before and all during the time with the problem with the psngr window, the driver's side would sporadically go down all on it's own without touching the switch or door or anything. Also, sometimes you had to fiddle with the switch a little to get it to work. Now, about 3 days ago, I rolled it down while getting some burgers at a local fast food place and bam, it just stayed down. No noise (except the little white amp clicking), no movement, no nothing. The psngr window continued to work fine both from the psngr switch and the driver's side switch. The next morning, neither window worked from either side. I've read through some of the other forums/posts here and on other 240sx sites and can deduce that it is in fact not the regulator. I'm about to try the fuse box, then take the switches out and try cleaning them. But my question is this, how can I use a paper clip to jump the connectors to at least get the driver's side window up? I know it can be done, but I don't know which wires to jump and don't want to short out anything else in the process. I live in Seattle and as you may have guessed, yes, it is raining. I'm not so worried about a complete fix at this time as I am just getting the window back up. Any help at all will be appreciated and welcomed. Thanks for all your time and assistance.Mark

I am not sure what 2 wires to jump at the switch off the top of my head . but if you pull the door panel and find the motor connector it will be a flat 2 wire connector probably black in color. disconnect the plug. at the connector that has the wire that runs into the door to the motor. supply power to one wire and ground to the other. if the window does not go up switch the pwr and ground around. this should run your window up.

If that doesnt work hook your motor wire back up and hook your switch back up. with the door panel still removed hold your swith in the up position while you take a flat hand and slap the door where the motor is mounted. if your lucky you will jar the motor enough to make the circuit in the motor close and put the window up.

NISTECH, thanks for your help. Will try first thing in the morning. Um, what would be a good source of power to supply to the switch? Is there a hot wire close to the switch that I could use? Never worked on pwr windows b4. Always had hand cranks on my '77 Camaros ;) Again though, man I appreciate the assist.Mark

yea I got the hand cranks on my 81 camaro [less stuff to fix he he he] any how if you have a test light, with the key in the on position probe the larger wires going to the switch one of them wil be your power source to use. use a paper clip in the back side of the harness connector for the switch. Dont go in the pin side of the connector or you could expand the opening and not have good contact when you get it all fixed.

Woot! NISTECH, thanks a heap bro! The jump worked great. Psngr side is now working again as normal (knock wood) too. I also found another post on another 240sx forum that suggested swooshing (rinsing) the switch thru lukewarm water. Don't know if that had an impact on the psngr side or not, but it didn't help the driver's side. Some notes, the fat white wire with the black stripe (the third one in going from the right when it's connected to the switch block) is hot. The black flat 2-wire connection to the window motor has one blue and one blue with orange stripe. I found the orange stripe to be ground and the other to be hot. Ran ground to door panel and the other straight to the white wire, went right up. heh Just in time too. More rain coming ahahah. I had some extra 18 gauge wire left in my tool bag from previous stereo installs and used it. Little more flexible than a paper clip and no dmg to the connector itself. Well, again man, really do appreciate the help. Oh, and I left the motor disconnected for good measure so the darn thing doesn't go down by itself as it has in the past. Will post again if I can figure out exactly what the prob is with the driver's side window. Guess I'll have the amp assbly checked next. Maybe get one from a pickapart or something and try a swap out. Anyway, peace out for now.Mark :thumbsup

your switch is probably defective thats why the window doesnt work properly o works by it self. the wires at the motor are bipolar. if your reverse the connections you made it will make the window go down.

Ah, didn't think about the bipolar. Makes sense. Hm, guess I'll try and get a switch from the pickapart then, cheaper as well. Thanks NISTECH.
