so i was thinking about taking a 91 240sx and turboing it. since i used to own a 90 Coupe and loved it. There is a cheap 91 near me with about 90k on it. i thought about boosting it and having some fun. i want to keep the prices under $1,200 for the kit though.

so i thought about the SSautochrome kit, i mean. it doesnt look THAT bad. i would only want to run enough boost to get me to 190-220hp anyways. just something that might hit high 13's.

my question is, (and yes i searched this) can i run a stock fuel system and how much boost could i run? what if i upgraded to a 300ZX fuel pump? basically i dont feel like upgrading the injectors, but will if nesseccary. i would like to try and run 8-10psi on the kit, and i dont mind risking it either.

i saw only one person on this forum running a SSautochrome kit from ebay, and from what they said, they werent having any issues. and is it worth investing in a LSD? because i figure that i could get the kit, and fuel upgrades i need, and maybe a LSD all for under 1.2k.

any help, comments, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

yes with a fmu u can run 8psi no problem...just get a walbro fuel pumpo for 100$.....and yes a lsd is worth it if you want better 1/4 mile times....

and unless you get a lot of sh*t for free...i bet you you wont finish under 1.2k

good luck

Recipe for disaster... A good turbo ALONE will cost you $400+... Fuel pump adds $100, and you'll still need an IC, piping, everything else...

You won't save anything with a junk mani, as it'll crack and cost you more $$$ to fix.

Double your budget and you can have a nice reliable 230hp+ setup from IAP.

you could always get the mani and dp from iap, make your own oil lines (theres a thread around here somewhere about it... search and find out) get a turbo from http://www.turbocalulator.com , buy an IC from http://www.johnnyracecar.com , fab your own piping, and run a fmu.... if done cheaply you could get close to 1200 with better parts than ssac....

Sure you can probably get under 1.2k, but it will probably max out around 190hp & may not be the "most" reliable thing in the world.

This is achievable if you can weld your own stuff & have the patience & knowledge.

Basically, if you run stock injectors and stuff (assuming they are in working condition now) the fmu like Craving4Boost mentioned will help you out since stock injectors max out fast.

Next I would ditch the intercooler (will save you a 2-5 bills) or run a cheap sr20 stock sidemount that ppl are parting all the time for cheap.

if you have the time, you can probably find a junkyard turbo (t25 or volvo turbo or something) or ebay turbo or wait on the classifieds.

Get the ssa mani & d/p or jordan gladman mani & d/p or whatever. Run DIY oil feed & return lines.

Get a cheapy vlsd from junkyard/ebay/classifieds.

Assuming nothing on your car will break & all these parts work correctly, you will get boosting for under 1.2k.... for how long, who knows.

As an example of myself: I "thought" I was done collecting miscellaneous parts, then I broke my wastegate rod + the spare I had when trying to adjust it bcs it was *** old & used. Then I found out I bought the wrong discharge flanges & my oil drain line was too small; I had to clean my injectors (which were stuck shut - whew on that one); Get a resistor box for the injectors; buy new flanges and fittings, etc, etc - Just spent about $250 buying just miscellaneous stuff. Misc crap is expensive.

Also, even if you do get it running, if anything blows up, doesn't work, etc - you are going to have to buy the piece twice (in the best case) or blow up your motor (worse case) - so it may also end up costing you a lot more if you try to take the cheapy way out instead of "doing it right" the first time around - just a thought.

In my personal opinion, just do what you gotta do. If you do it though, try to go through all the way - i.e. don't drop the project halfway - you learn so much, whether or not you do it w/ the most expensive parts or junkyard parts - it's all a learning process, more expensive for some than other, hehe.

I was also planning on piecing together a kit for under 1500. It's been a year, and I've spent about... 2k-2.5k, and that's on mostly USED PARTS! You live you learn - didn't know about iap back then, haha.

Good luck. The easiest thing you can do now is make sure everything on your car is ok, runs good, compression test good, etc etc.
