i have a really bad idle and i cant seem to fix it ........... first things first i have a 92 q45 with around 120K .

i was driving home from a Friends house .when i got in my car and started it ........it stalled out, most likely because of the acc was to set to low. it was raining and the roads where wet so i drive up this hill and there a puddle that i could not move in time to miss os i went right into it. now my car is driving a little funny i get home and go to work the next morning and my car has a bad idle worse then it ever had before .......... and i know a bad idle when i feel one because my Q all way had a bad idle ..... but now its worse . when i drive its like driving with 2 out of 8 cylinders until i get to about 2800 - 3000 rpms not to sure no that but any ways i disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes and nothing........ so cheeked ecu for codes i got a bunch but this could be because i was pulling wires to try to fix the problem but i know i got a 21 and 13 ....... next i reset the ecu and started the car w/ out the ecu fuse and ran for 2 seconds whit out a problem......long story short i think the ingnitor chips or Ignition Module (the thing on both valve covers) are bad because the car runs like there unplugged ..... i know what this is like because i did it once before when i put my transmission it because the wire where in my way and i forgot to plug them in but this is different because when they where not plugged in the cars rpms would not go over 2000 at all. and now the car will run fine if above 2500 - 3000 it kind of funny the car will move so slow and then bang ........... it at red line in milliseconds .... i have no clue just like always on how to fix this or for that matter what this is .......

i looked this up and posted something but the post was old i think

help me q45tech, wes anybody

I had similar symptoms long ago and T3 diagnosed a bad CAS. (crank angle sensor) Changed and running good ever since.

Yeah, id check either the CAS or the harnes connector....

EDIT: however, 13 is for the coolant temp sensor, and 21 is for the ignition circuit. Id try some CAS related stuff, maybe the coolant temp sensor was a fluke or something?

Back when it happened, I was getting the CEL too and the codes thrown didn't match the problem. Can't remember exactly what they were but they didn't point to CAS failure

Just out of curiosity, did you get any more codes after you reset the ecu?

A while back when I was working on my '91, I got a code 13 & 21 at the same time, switched out the ect for a known good one, reset the ecu, and still got the same codes.

Come to find out the harness was at fault, not the components.

history .when i got the car it had a idle and would shake when stop and at 2000 rpm, it was worse when it was at 40mph and 2000rpm..... that was 1 year agoin this year i had new, spark plugs and coil packs all 8 and 2 transmission all besause people would tell me this was the problem.........this dosn't include what my friend did to it when he owend it

what i think happen was the crank angle sensor and the sub cam sensor are both bad . i think the CAS (crank angle sensor )went first before i owend the car and then the sub cam failed

i got werd codes when i check the ECU there where more code i just don't rember them. i do not think the harness was at fault. i think the components are bad

The CAS has two independent circuits in the common housing.

The 90 degree [sub crank] and the 1 degree x 360 [crank] assemblies..........both must be functional to crank and have stable idle and running...............if the main crank sensor fails the engine can ncrank and run to a limited rpm from the sub crank, however doubtful [difficult] that the engine can crank if the sub crank is not functioning.

Usually it is not the CAS but just corroded correctors.............

You must retime the CAS with a timing light however note the offset position of the top slot and duplicate to begin with, to get it to crank.

when i start the car it runs fine until i get the car up to running temp. .......... right when it get there, i here her backfire.....then it studded and will not go above 2000 rpm unless i put the peddle down to the floor and then the car feel like it is going to fall apart

i wonted to know why this only happen after its wormed up and not all the time could i have another problem all together or is there an explanation for this

this is what i feel like
