Post

Hi There:

Now the introductions are done, i need to figure out what is wrong with my versa. The dealer ship is not helping at all just giving me the usual stock answers.

I bought my versa in Jan this year with 12km on it. It now has just under 10,000km on it.

I noticed right from the first the first day that the car didn't seem right. I thought it could be that i am not used to the CVT trans. yet. now after 10,000 there is still something not right and the dealer ship is still giving me the same stock answers wich is getting tiresum and starting to make me angry with the dealership and the car.

I bought the car for the aclaimed fuel milage that nissen has been bosting about. WELL......... the fuel milage is still crap after the engine is broken in and even scouring the internet, can't find any info reguarding the bad fuel milage and the dealer ship is not helping.

In January when i bought my versa the fuel millage was9.1 for the city and 7.3 for the HWY. Now my versa i have been averaging 13.82 to 14.86 MPG for the city and 9.1 to 11.3 for the hwy.

Two weeks ago i left work to go home and the car would not start, not even the clicking noise from the starter to turn over...... I had a dead battery. I called road side assistance to get a boost. since then the fuel consumption has gotten worse. Last week i put in 25 liters of fuel and i only got 140km out of it.

the RPM's are aways high when starting out around 5000RPM and my versa moves a bit. the engine sounds like i sewing machine hooked up to a high voltage power plant screaming bloody murder then it finially settels down to 3000RPM at around 60km.

does anyone have any answers or suggestions on what is going on, something more than the dealer ship is saying and possibly info i can print out to shove in the dealerships face so they can fix it.

Are you driving with the OD OFF?

If not, find a new dealer. Honestly I don't see how it is possible for you to be driving around at 5000RPM starting out unless you're flooring the accelerator all the way or there is something seriously wrong with your car.

Your MPG estimates of higher fuel consumption in the city vs. highway probably means the CVT transmission isn't reducing the drive ratio like it is supposed to.

On a level surface at 60km/h, my Versa CVT will often maintain that at less than 2000 rpm.

Best advice You are not limited to the dealer you bought the thing from.

Also, be aware that the CDN government hasn't change dthe mileage ratings even though real life driving shows much differntly than sticker.

9 and 7 l/100 km are about decent -- unfortunately.

oh, and as Andrew says . . . 5,000 RPMs is much much too high

I get 10/100 in the city and around 9 on highway.

DO NOT believe the window sticker for one second.

See that is where the issue lies, B.C is mountainous(if there is such a word) very hilly so it hardly ever maintains the same revs.

In Ontario when I drove the car it is more flat terrain and got 8.5 in the city, being back in B.C the CVT struggles causing the car to rev up quite high.

I have heard they can flash the CVT ECU to the newest firmware. If it wasn't for the amazing deal I got on the car I would of traded it in after 10,000KM.

I am kind of lost in this thread because I have a US model and don't know the conversions very well between gal/liters and km/mi but if your RPMs are in the high 5k's and you don't have the pedal to the floor their is something wrong.

First: Make sure your OverDrive isn't turned off. It is located on the shifter itself. Its a little button to the left and OD will show up on the tach area. Make sure the light is NOT on.

Second: Make sure your not driving in "L" but in "D".

Some obviously things but anything could help. :D

My area is, too, but I NEVER see it go above 4000rpm. I can maintain 65mph up a steep grade at 3500rpm, and usually keep it at 2000-3000rpm depending on the speed limit and slope. You do have a problem if you're seeing 5000rpm and don't have the OD off.

Hilly area or not, the CVT isn't supposed to scream up a hill or get that low of mileage. The hills have nothing to do with that is wrong with his car.

Take it somewhere else. There is a big problem they need to fix.

I agree that the 5000rpm thing is just wrong. Even in my manual I rarely see that kind of engine speed (but I do live in the land of the flat).

I would also check your tire pressure. It's just another one of those simple things that get overlooked sometimes.

take it to another dealer without telling them you were already at the dealer with the said issues.

Tire pressure would not cause gas mileage to be that horrible.
