Driving on Rural and City, about 50% each, I got 33.4 on the last tank. I drive very conservative. I don't care to know how fast it will move nor how fast it will run.

Planning to take a 300 mile trip soon, all interstate. That should give me a good hi-way reading.

Like the Versa more each day. No bother to me but has anyone noticed that there is no ash tray or lighter in the vehicle?

So far, I have gone through three tanks of gas. With each one, I got 29 mpg. This is with the 6 speed transmission. I drive 43 miles each way through Denver. Stop and go traffic with the air conditioning on. And when I am able, I drive pretty fast in open areas.

As far as the ashtray and lighter go, I wish the power socket was near the dash instead of the center console. It makes it almost impossible to plug in a device like a radar detector without stretching the cord accross the cabin.

Just finished my first tank. I do mixed city/highway driving. VERY mixed... my clients are in the city, but I have to take a highway between cities to get there, and I use the carpool lane for morning and evening commutes.

296.6 miles, 10.1 gallons. Just shy of 30 mpg.

I filled up at 447 miles with only 10.6 gallons ~42 mpg . Mostly rush hour traffic.

fen911: what kind of driving? Mileage will vary drasticaly between city and highway. speed is also a factor, if you drive faster on the highway, your mileage will drop.

and with a manual, were you shift can also make a difference, although it won't be huge

For what it's worth, I shift when I hit 3K RPM in all gears, unless I really REALLY need the power. The car drives very smoothly at lower RPMs, so I usually don't push it at all.

I do both city and highway, since its not past the break in period I try to drive as normal as i can. Im going to see how much mpg I get on my secound tank. Maybe it will do better since people here are getting 30mpg and better.

OK, we finally made it though our first tank. We have an SL w/ CVT. A little dissapointing at about 26.3 MPG in mostly "city" driving. That is with a good deal of A/C on. I'll chalk it up to brand new car still in the break in period, and I can't be sure the dealer gave us a full tank. I'll post again down the road.

I'll atribute that to the dealer on the 1st tank. These new engines are built so well a break-in is period is not as critical any more.

Best bet is to run to 500 miles & change the filter then top off the oil. If you want to swith to synthetic, 500 miles is your best chance.

2nd tank. 35.7 mpg. Starting to drive it a little harder now. It is fun having anti-sway bars again

Just finished my third tank. This time I wound the engine up a little harder (3500-4000 was when I was shifting) and the car dropped significantly, to 26.4MPG. So I now know the efficient shift point indeed is right around 3000.

I Have the CVT and just filled up my second tank. Gas mileage is unimpressive---25MPG. Most of my driving has been city with the AC on. Nowhere near advertised 30MPG. I'll update as time goes on.

For me the accuracy of calculating mileage has come down to returning to the same pump for the pre- and post- fills since I think that they "kick-off" differently at each pump. Also, I think a fast fill may kick-off the pump earlier than a slower fill. You could be looking at a 2-3 mpg difference here. I mean it is not scientific, but at least it is consistent for me.

First fill-up

31.5 mpg, mostly highway but some town driving too. Air conditioning on most of the time and had to warm the car up three mornings( frost on the windows here in the mountains).

Just did my first fill-up today.

Calculated it to be between 31 and 32 MPG. I have a 1.8 SL w/CVT and have A/C on all the time.

I was guessing I would be fairly close to 30 MPG. Anything over 30 MPG makes me happy at this point. I initially drove the vehicle "relatively" hard for the first 150 miles though but not enough to push it over 4,000 RPMs... well not too many times.

Later after the half-tank mark, I changed my driving style (e.g. less of a lead foot) and tried to keep the engine from going above 2,500 to 2,800 RPMs during acceleration either while moving or from a stopped position. Coasting at 65 MPH even on slight inclines, the engine is barely over 2,000 RPMs.

Like any new car, it might take a few thousand miles to start getting optimal fuel-efficiency once everything has had a chance to "settle in". Also with the MPG, you have to take into account that I'm in stop-and-go traffic all the time and that's guaranteed to penalize your MPG.

Cheers,Kermee

I have 2000 miles on my versa it's an automatic. The best I got on a tank was 36.25 miles per gallon the worst was 29. I am going on a 700 mile round trip, trip today so I'll check again this should be most highway miles from NY to VA and back.

I have a 95 240sx with a 155,000 mile 2.4 liter KA and I get 30 + MPG every tank. My 240 has an intake, a 3 inch exhaust and runs rich. I was thinking about getting a Versa, If I will be getting worse fuel economy I think I will stick with my 240.

For a 1.8 liter to get number in the mid 20's is ridiculous. How heavy is this thing. My 1.7 liter civic gets 40+ MPG.

Your 240SX is an aberration, then. They're not even supposed to get 30 on the highway for your model year, much less city driving.

SOHC non-VTEC Civics get stupid gas mileage. They're also really light, which helps them.

The Versa is about 2700 pounds, not much shy of your 240.

On my 4th tank of gas now and the Best I've gotten is an average 29 MPG.90% of my driving is 2-4 short (<10 mile) trips per day.

I'll be taking my Versa on a 14-hour roadtrip to college in a week or so. It's an SL w/ CVT and was wondering if it'd be best to use the cruise control most of the time to maximize gas mileage?

Absolutely. That's what it's there for.

if your lazy use cruise control, but if you want more use your foot. Although without instrumentation (telling you how much mpg your getting at a given moment) its hard to predict if your foot is doing the right thing... or the wrong thing.

So ya... just stick with cruise ;P but if your on highway speeds... slower the better they say... 55 mph is the sweet spot but... its hard to drive at that speed and not get creamed on the road... well I can but it takes patience to pull it off. And its just not yourself your dealing with... its the others on the road as well!

This is I think my sixth tank I just put in today. I'm seeing a pattern... 270 miles, 9 gallons, 30 mpg. I've now had 5 tanks at 30 and one at 26.

The sweet spot seems to be 3000-3300 rpm or ~65-70mph on the 6-speed. Any slower the engine is running bogged down, which wastes gas.

Do not use the cruise control if you have not passed 1200 miles. Vary your rpms during the break in period. Your pocket book & Versa will thank you.

This is where the CVT is rated better mpg on the sticker. At 70 mph, mine is turning only 2400 rpm. It never feels bogged and will take on all small hills without varying rpm. It feels like a much bigger engine than it is. I can't wait to pass 1200 miles so I can start really running it!! I am trying to follow the book and hold it under 4000, but that is hard. On my commute, the rpm's vary a lot, even with cruise on!!
