street black200sx wrote:hey guys since i felt my car had a timing issue. i decided to check my timing today because it didnt feel that repsonsive to throttle. when i checked the timing today doin the whole proper procedure noticed my timing was way way advanced to the point that i cud not see the marks. but yet my engine was not pinging. so i decided to go ahead and put it to 15 degrees btdc this is when conditions went down hill the car ran like trash it ran like it was retarded 15 degrees not 15 degrees advanced. so i put it back to where it was before roughly since i cudnt put it back exactly because of no marks being present and the car ran much better. u think my cam timing is off?plz guys sum input is needed. i on a fmic and stock boost i want to turn up boost but not until i deal with this prob.

you can put a spark plug wire in there, but I have found that the inductive timing loop (black wire that protrudes off the harness behind coil pack #4) works just as well and requires less time and effort to set up.

Personally it sounds like it's related to the CAS. Reinstall it and see if it fixes it. Or if that doesn't fix the issue, borrow a friend's. If your friend's works right, then you should replace the CAS

Pull your valve cover off and turn you crank pulley untill all your timing marks line up. That means the marks on the chain line up with the marks on the Cam Sprockets and your crank pulley is TDC. This will let you know if your off anywhere with your cams. At this point also reset your CAS by pulling it out and aligning it to the right dot first and as you slide it into the gear it should align itself to the left dot. FSM instructions for the most part.

also i found the timing light method not too be accurate for me. i rather take the time and set the CAS manually.
