i was just wondering if the heads on an 85 turbo 300 and an 87 n/a 300 were the same because i just bought another z and they stripped the exhaust bolt holes doing something plus the lifter is tickin pretty good

depends, if the 87 is a W series it's slightly different, I don't recall exactly how, but if it's an A/B seiies then they are the same

The A/B series differ from the W series in the water passages. My understanding is that some of the water passages would not line up properly (or even exist) between an A/B head and a w series block, and vice versa. I have heard of people using engines set up like this without any major issues, but I can't say 100% that you couldn't have any issues as I have not done this myself.

There are other differences between the A/B and W series, but as for the heads that is it. The cams, springs, valves, and manifold bolt patters are the same.

Well, if the 85T motor was the original motor, then it is an A/B series. If the tag in the driver's side door jamb on the 87 shows a production date of 4/87 or later, it has a W series. 3/87 or earlier, A/B series.
