So I'm making this thread to see who is really active here politically.

I'm not talking about voting, although I think everyone should vote. I'm talking about being active in your party, in your local government, volunteering for campaigns and elections, et cetera.

I haven't been active since college, when I was pretty seriously involved with Jim Roddey's (GOP) successful campaign for Allegheny (PA) County Executive. I knew a lot of the local party people, organized events, distributed materials, etc.

I'm thinking of getting back into it this year for the election. It's always good to know and be known among your local party people anyway, IMO. Local government is a fun place to dabble, even if you're not interested in actually being an elected official.

I'm an activist from the point of email and letter writing. My email IP is probably banned by the Governor's office here in CA, or flagged as spam. I'm not really politically active, in fact, my votes of late have been against a candidate, not really for one so it's pretty hard to jump on a bandwagon.

I did work on a local election campaign before, that was time consuming and we lost. I've gone door to door getting signatures to qualify a candidate too. All little fish stuff though.

I'm not one to go without making my point heard so I'll stick to email and letters.

Time and energy are always in short supply, but I'm running for the local school board in hopes of getting on city council.

City is still relatively small (but growing fast), so I can see some opportunities.

In a few years, I can parlay those connections and my LE / auditing / investigations experience into some consulting work.

I worked an Obama campaign event/table at a local community event on Saturday.

Got to meet a few party officials and some elected ones, including our county councilman. Chris Van Hollen was rumored to be coming, but that didn't pan out.

Anyone else working on either one of the campaigns?

(don't turn this into a b*tch fest, I don't care what your affiliations are or why, members of either campaign are encouraged to respond, or anyone who's done anything else lately, including other non-Presidential campaigns).

Additionally, it looks like I'm going to be a Precinct Chair for November, which isn't something I've ever done before. I will be responsible for coordinating either one or multiple voting locations and all activities for those locations leading up to the election.

Not that Montgomery County MD is really in dispute. We could do nothing and it would still go to Obama in a landslide, but it's fun to be involved anyway.

Unfortunately, due to time commitments, about all I can do is vote.

And that is done regularly and methodically.

OTOH, my brother-in-law is active - he did a fund-raiser for John Edwards at his house and was active in the California advisory committee for his election. I commend his efforts ... after having met and heard Edwards, I will say that he is the only Democrat I might have considered for the office of President. That is not likely now, of course!

Been working on getting a personal friend elected to the Indiana State Legislature.

Our Conservation Club is going to hold a Fund Raising Shoot for him. Ha!

Refuse to join the local Republican Party (City and County) because of the way the Party and politics are run in Marion County. I guess getting good people elected to local political positions are more important right now than the National Stuff.

Cool! What all are you doing for the campaign?

And it is true that day in and day out, our local politicans have more impact on our lives than POTUS does, for certain.

Nothing major or special, but most importantly, I am a campaign donor. He was slated in the Primaries back in May, so we will be canvassing his district and I will help run the Shoot (Campaign Fund Raiser) that we are holding at the end of this month at our Conservation Club.

He is not running for the Legislative seat in my district, he is just a good friend. But I think our state will benefit from having good politicians that do our state's business.

Looks like I will indeed be a Democratic Precinct Chair this year.

Technically I'll be an "appointed provisional chair", but since I've got some buddies on the county's central committee, I should be able to wrangle a real, 4-year term.

If I do well, I'd love to try and get a real position on Van Hollen's campaign if he ever decides to run for Senate or Governor. I'd love to see him take Barbara Mikulski's Senate seat, but she's a freaking institution in Maryland.
