I have a real mystery on my hands.
I have 2009 G37x i bought second hand with 50k on it. Great condition. No accidents or problems. Never crashed or modified.

I had it fully inspected by my mechanic for the Maryland State Inspection.

What he found is that IT IS NOT ALL WHEEL DRIVE.
The VIN comes up g37 AWD.
Everything matches. The badge was not added later. The VIN comes back to g37AWD
No signs of tampering whatsoever.
This is a private mechanic who discovered this. I have been going to him for years and hes akways been 100% to me and my family.
He says it is rear wheel drive and that it would take a lot of work to remove AWD and he would have seen evidence.

Anyone able to explain why m AWD is only two wheel drive>>>

It's not a full time AWD system like you'd find in a Subaru. The difference between Subaru’s symmetrical all wheel drive and the AWD system on the G37x is the Subaru system sends power to all four wheels all of the time. The G37’s AWD system only powers the rear wheels until they slip, then power is sent to the front as well. At low speeds, the car can be locked in AWD with the “Snow Mode” button, but this deactivates at higher speeds.

My mechanic says all of the usual AWD peices are missing. It was a full maryland state inspection. No signs of tampering. Just rear wheel drive. Also, i have not found a snow mode in my car anywhere.

Then it's not AWD. You could try calling INFINITI customer support for a clairification, (800) 662-6200. Or you can put your VIN number into http://monroneylabels.com/ and for about $8 you will get a reproduction of the data of the original automobile window sticker (Monroney Label). It will list factory options packages and pricing, manufacturers MSRP price when new, engine and transmission specifications, standard features and equipment, and fuel economy rating.

thank you i will check. I know when ran, the VIN comes back g37x. But i would like the rest of the information as well. If the factory did admit fault would they be liable to fix it? i am the second owner so I don't know that theyll do it.

Well there's nothing to fix, as it were (except removing the AWD emblem). It sounds like the car was miss-tagged as AWD at the factory. If that's the case, and you were the original owner you'd have to go back to the dealership to get it resolved. As you're the second owner, you're not entitled to anything from Infiniti. At this point you'll have to determine if the seller knowingly sold a RWD as an AWD in order to get more money for it, and proceed from there.
