I was running a mustang 5.0 tonite, and at the end of the run my car puffed out a whole lot of white smoke out my exhaust, and the car sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders. It also smokes out the BOV when I rev it a little to create pressure. why would smoke come out my bov? I unplugged one at a time the fuel injector harnesses, and cylinder number 2 seems like it makes little difference in the way it runs, just drops it down a little. It makes like a knocking sound from the top of the motor, but like a fast knock. Now the idle is up to 1,500, and white smoke comes out the car, smells like oil. What the heck did I do to my poor baby? I am soo mad at myself for doing that tonite.

Wrong section, but sounds like you have a rod knock.

My guess is that you detonated, and blew the piston rings. You probably damaged the rod too, and maybe even tweaked the valves a bit.

youre right pulled off the head, and detonated #2 cyl, can I just hone the cyl's and put new pistons, or do I have to get a new shortblock. Where can I get a shortblock cheap? Could I use a SR20DE motor's shortblock?

Depending on the level of detonation you could bore the cylinders. But this means you need to do all four, to either 86.5mm or 87mm. And if you choose 87mm, it would be wise to sleeve the cylinder. Then you would need to get new pistons for the overbore.

You should just email all the major SR suppliers in the US and try to see if any have short blocks. They should go for around $500-1000 not including shipping. You can use a JDM RWD SR20DE short block if you want but it probably doesnt have oil squirters under the pistons and uses thinner connecting rods and different componants (i.e. higher compression, lower hp possibilities. You CANNOT use the FWD SR20DE blocks used in the US. They utilize different engine mount locations so RWD mounts will never fit on those engines.

There is a post in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, from a guy parting out a 500hp SR20. On the bottom of the list, he is offering to sell a shortblock for $500. That is probably the best way for you to go.

Could this have been caused by the 15lbs of boost, I was under the impression that 14lbs was about max that the injectors and MAFs could handle. Could the extra boost have caused him to run lean?

nah, 15 PSI won't do that to a stock block. All it will do is tire the turbo out prematurely. If he over burdened the MAF it would have simply burnt out. It just sounds like there was already something wrong with engine when he got it that wasn't noticable till he started pumping large amounts of boost through it.

remember, these cars end up in the junkyard for reasons other than crashing

tenkawa_akito: Your right about that, I believe there was a problem

Phax: I will check that out thank you :)

SpeedRacer1: I will email all the major suppliers I know and find to see what they charge

Thank you all for your help :)

Does anyone think I can just hone the cylinders and replace them?

there is a little buildup of melted metal in one of they cyl walls, never mind the honing, I will get a better shortblock from someone.
