So anyone thats been here for a while, knows about me, and my nightmare motor swap. My SR trans was *apparently* fried (or was it?) , and so was my old KA trans, so I bought a j-yard trans with 19k miles on it.. paid to have that a new Master cyl and new slave cyl put int and wa-la finally my car is driveable.. untill today.

Today, the new trans is doing the same thing the SR trans was doing. Put the car in 1st or Reverse and try to let the clutch out.. the shifter doesnst pop out of gear, and the car will move, but there is a loud whirring noise and the shifter vibrates like all he11. Put the clutch in and it stops. Pump the clutch and sometimes it will, somtimes it wont.

someone tell me I dont need ANOTHER trans. (lucky number 4!)

Check your rear end and your axles.

I really dont think its the trans. Someone suggested it could be a bearing in the SR block, one person said output shaft, someone said Flywheel could be off balance... Anyone?

There is really no bearing in the block that would cause this. Sorry. As for the output shaft: does the car actually begin to move?I seriously doubt the flywheel also.

It really sounds like either the clutch has some hot spots on it and as you release it is grabbing and releasing. Or you have a stripped gear or something of that nature in either the transmission or the rear end.

I would suggest jacking the car up and rotating the drive shaft. Listen to the transmission and to the rear end as you turn it over and see if either is noisy. The wirring noise it what really would scare me though.

Straight cut gears like first and reverse will whirr... but to an extent.

this is no normal 'whirr' this is a horrible LOUD noise that can be heard for 100's of feet. I had 2 mechanics of at least 10 years each stop, look at the car and say "i have never head a car make THAT sound before."

I would put it on jack stands and try to figure out where it is coming from.

I think i will take your advice, Several places said it could be pilot bearing, but that was just replaced.. my swap shop things the gear oil is loosing viscosity, as the problem gets worse as the transmission heats up.. I think the flywheel or driveshaft is off balance.. Thanks for your input, if it gets figured out i'll post the solution

Check your clutch adjustment to make sure it disengages fully when you press the pedal and engaging full when you release it. A mal-adjusted clutch can wreck up a transmission and even a rear end in a hurry.
