So Back in january my Cir-clip on my wrist pin had broke somehow. Before it got bad, I stopped driving it. What i thought was a noisey lifter turned out to be much worse. The number 3 cylinder was scratched pretty bad. So back in april I got my block down to the machine shop. Little did i know patience and funds would be my real set back.
So lets catch things up to date.
I got my Head completely clean. I got the gasket rebuild kit from cometic gaskets.
So first was first. I got the valve seals in. I used a 10mm socket and 1/4" extension pressed each one to fit snug. Then I placed all the valve spring sheets, put the valves through the guides, then the springs, retainers, and the last and best part Getting those damn keepers in. Personally I dipped a flat head screw driver in assembly goo then placed the keeper on there and in they all went about an hour or so later. So now my valve train is pretty much finished.
Im still waiting on my block. A sleeve was going to be fitted to correct the scratch from the wrist pin.
So ill be getting new forged pistons from cp and continue to use my stock rods.
I got clevite main and rod bearings just waiting for this block to get back.
So far im making progress.
once I get this block back ill start throwing up some pictures. :woot:

You know youve built a head or 2 when you crawl in the trunk of your car to rub a flat head on a speaker magnet so you can go back inside and install the keepers lol

Funny you say that. Thats a clever idea. I Honestly used transmission assembly goo. But I got all the valve seals installed and the rest of the valve train finished in shy of two hours. A couple smokes to keep my motivation and I got it done.

This block is taking forever though. What was suppose to be 3 weeks or so has turned into two and half months. Im just waiting for that call. These clevite main and rod bearings are just sitting here. Once I get the block back, in with the main bearings and crankshaft. Then CP pistons. But i havent decided what compression. The rods will be stock. Minus the camshafts the head is basically finished. Ive got all the torque specs for the entire engine. Still deciding on injector size. And im going to be running Nistune.

I plan to break in the engine on the 10psi snail that i was running before. The plan after the engine is broke in to use a GT35R to pump around 20 psi to make a very nice drift setup for next year. :dblthumb:

If you've got E85 available, go High Compression. You'll be glad you did.

Why 35r? Work Turbochargers in Birmingham AL is doing some SERIOUS WERK with the Borg Warner EFR's.

Yea, the new EFR's are awesome. When I get this current setup all tuned, I'm planning on replacing the T4 with one of the EFR's.

So I finally got the call from the machine shop. My block has been sleeved and bored to 83.5mm. I got a nice set of supertech pistons. The pistons are suppose to be here on thrusday. So once i get them, they'll be ready to be properly sized for my block. So im expecting not this weekend but next almost my entire engine will be put together.
All that remains is an oil pump, bottom end gaskets, UEGO wideband, then my nistune. Once i get the block ill try to take photos from the ground up.
Btw I checked out those EFR turbos. wow they look awesome. Im thinking of getting there BB T3 with a .48 turbine housing and a .57 trim for the compressor. OH my end of the year bonus will be this sweet little hairdryer. :woot:

My pistons got here today. I got a set of CP forged pistons 83.5 with an 8.5:1 compression. There down at the machine shop along with my rods and crank. All being balanced. I should have everything back on friday. Its all coming along. Soon once the machine work is paid for ill that remains is an oil pump, wideband, and nistune. My pintle caps on two of my injectors. I never saw anything online or a cross reference in the stickies... So will one of the USDM CA series pintle caps and O rings work for my injectors?

Well i've been working alot lately. But i did on my day off this past week, manage to get a good 12 hours or so on my engine. It doesnt have much left to go now. I need to figure out a pintle cap replacement for my injectors. Also Dee do you remember a couple years back you sold me a CA18DE harness and ecu? As ive gone through the wiring i never located the knock sensor. Maybe you could chime in on this. This things getting close ive got about 1G of spendings left to get it ready to start.
Does anyone have a CA throttle body they'd be willing to sell?

I'm no help, but you could get the oil pump bolts from a hardware store.

I bought my ca18 crank from this guy, and had no problems. He's now selling all his 240 stuff, which includes 2 or more ca18det's (one if which is completely apart) and an s13 shell, so you should be able to get some deals.

He's in Knoxville, TN. Here's the ad:
http://knoxville.craigslist.org/pts/3197697830.html

And if that ad expires, find the group called "240sx" on facebook. He's posting this stuff for sale there too. His name is Nick Hageman.

Hope this helps.

Did you ever find that knock sensor plug? All CA18 DOHC engines came with knock sensors and and most knock sensors were configured through the sub-harness, so you won't see it on the main harness. I'm out of the country, so my responses will be delayed once I leave my hotel and no more wi-fi.

No i havent found the knock sensor plug yet. You remember that DE harness i got from you a couple years back? Thats the same harness im still using. Can you help me with this knock sensor problem?

And I need a few things. my harmonic balancer has slight chips off parts of it. im not sure if it would throw it off balance, but i dont really wanna find out. So do you have a stock harmonic balancer laying around? And possibly oil pump bolts. My engines close to being put back in, but my oil pump is one of the few last things do.

Any help would be awesome

You can actually find the Knock sensor wire pin on the blue ecu plug, trace the wire and splice into from there to connect to your knock sensor. How badly chipped is yours? I mean, if it has a few chips of the edges, that's fine. But if the chips are damaging the belt grooves, then you will indeed need a new one.
