I get an CEL every once and a while, but it usually goes away on the drive home before I could check it. I finally checked it according to the faq at 240sx.org and It read 32 I went inside and checked EGR function I checked again and it read 45 injector leak. I thought I may have counted wrong, as it seemed alittle strange to throw 2 different codes at the same time. Does the ecu display multiple codes this way or would it have blinked them all in one sequence?

I also checked my spark plugs and found them to be white (Ive read this could be running lean or overheating but the temp gage says fine...)

click for full res.

my guess would be the leaking injector causing it to run lean?other then the plugs and the code, which isn't popping back up since I checked/cleared it the other day, it runs as well as it always has(no real complaints from me...)So do I just need new o-rings on the injectors and a new egr? How do I check those?

injector leak is usually caused by a maf problem and egr could be caused by too much egr flow or too little. you can put a vac gauge on the egr line to see if the egr valve is getting a signal and try blocking the egr if you suspect too much egr flow. for the injector leak you want to check the reference voltage, signal voltage, and ground voltage drop at the maf.

The ECM throws the code for leaking injector based on O2 input to the ECM. It makes this judgment based on how difficult it is to correct the condition. Flow is like this: O2 voltage is constantly above .5v to the ECM, Ecm says ok lets cut back the injector pulse width a bit and try to make that O2 give me a voltage below .5v. The ECM gradually does this and watches the MAF to see what the loose nut behind the wheel is doing with the gas pedal . If after a predetermined period of time it never sees that lower then .5v it throws the code 45 as it has determined it no longer has full control of the fuel input and that the engine must be getting fuel some other way { injector leak seams logical]. Here is the problem though your computer is about as dumb as a stump when things dont go according to plan. It doesnt understanding anything outside of normal so it guesses [ kinda like a drivability tech at jiffy lube]. Here the problem with you sinario You have pulled a plug and it clearly is not running rich as your plugs indicate its lean. So somebody in there is lying to the ECM. The ECM [much like our superstar tech at jiffy lube] has made a bad guess at the problem. If I were you I would conduct a test on the O2 sensor and see if it has gone out to lunch and phase shifter rich.

Looks like you may have had deposits starting to build up. Its kind of borderline, an overheated plug has the white deposits & dark speckled deposits on the ceramic tip. That could cause overheating, which will lead to pre-ignition, the plug electrodes melting & damage to the piston.

Here are some causes of overheating:

Ignition timing too far advanced, air/fuel mixture too lean, insufficient cooling water & lubricants, applied turbo boost pressure too high(in the case of a turbo engine), insufficient tightening of the spark plug, use of too hot a spark plug.

You might be ok for now, id just keep an eye on the plugs, and if you start to see the dark speckled deposits too, then you'll know theres something else going on.
