Question for anyone whose checked codes using a screwdriver and the screw on teh ECU on a 1st or 2nd gen altima:

When the screw is turned (either fully left or fully right), will it hit a stopping point, or will it/can it just keep on spinning? I'm asking because it I could keep turning mine. It wasn't at all like a rotary switch, which is what I was expecing.

Can anyone enlighten me?

yes it is very easy to spin it over. there are no real stops on it, thats why there is a sticker on the side of it telling you where to stop. I am assuming your sticker is gone?

HI Nistech,

The sticker is still there, I just never clued in to the fact that the positions indicated were more than just diagramitical. The small writing and the positioning make it hard to read.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know I didn't break anything!

One more question: if the screw isn't fully returned fully counterclockwise, can this adversely affect my idle speed? It seems a little higher than normal, but I might just be paranoid.

Its not suppose to. but its hard to say what can happen when you venture outside the set procedures layed out in the service manual. Try doing the base idle adjustment procedure and set it to spec and see where your idle ends up.
