AZ - normally only subs are run at lower (numerically) ohm loads in car audio, and if you don't have more than the 1 bazooka sub that will be nearly impossible to do, unless the bazooka has dual voice coils or 2 subs in the 1 tube.

Not to get off on a tangent, but running the mid/ high amp "seeing" a lower (numerically) ohm load will require more "eq'ing" as it will create greater intermodulation/distortion. I'm sure some will try to challenge that the ohm load doesn't impact the SQ enough to bother and truely in an automobile (especially a 'vert) this may be true. But if great SQ could be achieved with low (numercially) ohm loads, why are all home audiophile systems 8 ohm and even some esoteric systems 16 ohm? (rhetorical question)

So, in long what do you want to run off the amp as a 2 ohm load?

I'm just going to comment on that. Home audio speakers are usually held to a much higher sound quality standard than car speakers are.

You might find this article an interesting read.

One "point" of interest may be his last paragraph discussing gold-plated connectors.
12" Electro-Voice 3-way 16 Ohm. Very old, very heavy, the foam is in really good shape. They were hardly used. An engineer at EV couldn't find them in his database or books. I thought for home use after a reconing (if necessary).

Very nice. Do you know anything about them?

I have a pair one Cerwin Vega speakers that seem to be one of a kind. I contacted one of the local dealers and they could not find them in their books. They are about 10 years old.

They had been sitting for about 2 years. So, the foam surrounds had compleely disintegrated. Luckily, that was the only thing wrong with them. If I would have had to re-cone them, I would probably have just replaced them.

But, now that they're in working order, they sound great.

Let us know how your speakers sound when they're hooked up

Okay, last post I'll make regarding the impact of impedance on SQ. I'll also say, that it's easily argued that the impact of this maybe undiscernable due to a 'vert's "dirty" interior from a sound standpoint.

An excerpt from an article on Home Theater Magazine Quote »... the more important it is for the amplifier to be able to supply more current and remain stable into this more-demanding, lower-impedance load.
Good info.

All my speakers for the car are 4 ohm.

The 'Zook will be run off the "cheap" amp (bridged) via the sub-out on the EQ.

Please understand that a speakers impedence is only at one particular frequency. Understand that the impedence varies with the enclosure compliance.http://www.epanorama.net/docum....html

Equalization is a must as interior noise level varies with speed and frequency..........need serious bass boost at highway speeds.

This should help you decide how to hook up your speakers.

Good point Dennis.

And if I did have some praise for the Bose system, its that it sounds appropriate and has sufficient power at 75mph without being weak or distorted. I guess my gripe is the absence of clear midrange and clean highs when tooling around town.

And again, in fairness to Bose and Clarion, the system was way ahead of its time in 1990.

Nakamichi needs to make a comeback in the US.
