read errors on 2008 sl versa stock cd player

irritated! this stereo has worked beautifully, then randomly, during playback of a disc it has played before it gets a "read error" "check disk" flashing message and no longer will play any cd in any slot.I've d/c'd the battery for 15 minutes, per suggestion found elsewhere on the net, no success. I've pulled and replaced the fuse, ditto. Everything else still works including the aux jack. I don't have the bluetooth stereo, but have the 6 disc changer. Please, does anyone know how to either reset the stereo or am I out of luck (I'm way past warranty).The model number on front says "cy20d.Thanks in advance!

is the cd scratched? the laser may be on its way out

Mine did that one very damp day last month, and then worked fine the next day and ever since. I suspect the laser got fogged over or some such thing.
