Hey guys was wondering if any of us with the very popular RE5R05A transmission have had any failures due to coolant contamination? I was researching the transmission in my 2005 Q and saw just how many Nissan vehicles ended up with this transmission. Across the board, one of the common issues with the Pathfinder and the Xterra and some 350Zs there is coolant in the transmission causing failure. I’ve watched several YouTube videos on Xterras that show how this happens and how simply switching 2 hoses under the vehicle prevents this. I want to prevent this in my transmission since I am noticing some flare 4/5 and rough 2/3. Has anyone dealt with this or might know which hoses on the q? Or of the 1,349 2005 Q’s sold are there so few remaining that it’s just unknown?

I don't think it's a common issue for your platform.

From what I recall reading on the Pathfinders, the issue was that the radiator would fail and coolant would make it into the trans fluid compartment.

Simply follow the 2 hoses from transmission to in-radiator atf cooler......disconnect and add a separate transmission cooler in front of condenser-they are cheap and 100% eliminates the possibility of the issue

Ditto to both of those responses... never heard of it on anything other than the trucks... and if you're concerned, eliminate the radiator from the circuit with an external cooler. B&M makes a nice one.

Glad to hear this platform hasn’t experienced it yet hopefully. I changed the transmission fluid and put new in with 1 quart of lubegaurd platinum with matic S. How long should that combo be good for? Did it at 95,000 and have 115,000 now- and should I go the lubegaurd route again? I have zero transmission issues knock on wood-
