if your going to install new rings, you might as well do a full rebuild since youll be tearing it down anyways. but it depends on if you have the tools and confidence to do it. my friend and i rebuild his ka24e and it runs fine besides the occacional bogging right after startup that alotta ka's have.if your going to do it yourself, grab the fsm and start gathering tools and parts that youll need. if you find out that you cant do it yourself, take it to a shop. it would cost a little less since its already torn down.good luck.

What rings and bearings are you going to use? Standard rings or TotalSeal stuff?

It's not a very complicated thing for someone to do with fair mechanical skills, however as stated you do need to have the factory specs and some specialized tools (micrometer, dial indicator) and know how to use those tools. If this is a car you use every day and you have not done much engine work, leave it to a professional.
