I am thinking about adding forged pistons to my set-up with a re-ring on my stock block. I am only running around 275 hp but the stock ringlands are toast. If I re-hone the cylinders and add stock bore forgies do you think I would run into any problems with the rings sealing?

I did not rebore my block when I rebuilt it. Just make sure you get a machine shop to check the cylinders for you. I would also get them to hone it and set your ring gaps.

Only way to know is to check your your cleareances..... I personally would just get oversized. It's what 60-80 to have them bore and hone it for you???Why take a chance.......If your going to be tearing it down, do it once

If you're doing the work yourself, buy a ball hone that fits the cylinder bore. I used one on my RB20 everytime I swapped pistons, which was alot. Worked like a champ, worth the look.

Thats what I was thinking of using WD. I want to give it a try just to see what happens.

BTW: WD I am glad to see you back. My forum was missing a lot of experience there for a while.

Do you think stock pistons could handle 300whp?

Its good to be back man. Fiz is still around, he's just VERY busy lately. I'll be here alot now that I'm a free man...lol.

I think the pistons are about as strong as the rods honestly. If I were to avoid detonation, I'm fairly sure a rod would go first. I never saw a lick of knock....not even close when my car was actually running. The first thing to go was a rod...the #3 as usual. That was running 18-20 psi and using alcohol for octane/fuel enrichment for high boost.

300 is a safe bet. Normally I'm conservative when telling someone how much to boost or what has a certain limit. I'd say with a rebuild, 300 is a good number that should allow decent longevity.

WD
