So I have a 03 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT. The car came stock with gold (barf) Brembo brake calipers. Although there is a lot of material online about how to paint calipers, I need to RE-paint them. I think I have a general idea of how but I just wanted to clarify a few things before I dive into it.
1) Once I remove the caliper from the brake line, how do I keep my master cylinder from bleeding dry? Is it necessary to remove them from the brake line?
2) How to prep them to paint? Some people say just scuff the existing paint, some people say to sand/strip the top layer of paint but leave the black/grey primer, while others say to sand/strip them all the way down to the metal, even others say to polish the metal once you've gotten that far.
2a) At what point do I need to use primer? Obviously if I go all the way down to raw metal I will need to, but what if I leave the black/grey primer?
3) If I'm using paint stripper should I go ahead and plan on rebuilding the caliper? (due to the effects of paint stripper on rubber) Or will a good tape/masking job do the trick?
4) Clear coat? I'm getting conflicting information on whether or not to use clear coat (I'm planning on using the G2 system). I plan on getting new Brembo decals from ebay so my question is should I use clear coat over the decals or is that considered over-kill?
5) Color? My car is white with black wheels, are white brake calipers a stupid idea? I like red too but at the same time I feel like everyone and their cousin has red calipers.
I appreciate all of your help. Thanks in advance.
