Hey guys, I have a used Black 2006 G35 Coupe. i got it for a good price, about $24K w/ only 20K miles on it. nothing wrong with it so far, I've had it for about 6 months. the only thing that bugs me is the guy that had it before me didn't know how to take care of a black car, theres little scratches, big scratches, swirl marks, places where he used touch-up paint but did a crap job with it, and the front end has a bunch of paint chips. don't get me wrong, it looks great from about 5ft away but when you get close it starts to not look so good. so i was thinking about getting it re-painted. and probably a new color either white or silver, since i am tired of taking care of the black, this is my second black car. does any one know how much it would be, or has anyone done it before and have any tips for me on choosing a paint or painter?

Thanks,Drummer

You're probably looking at upwards of a few thousand dollars to have the car repainted. Nissan/Infiniti paint is known to chip easily. Mine chips easily, it seriously has more chips in it at 17,000 miles and in very odd spots than other cars I have owned nearing 100,000 miles (not counting scratches, just chips). The paint is my only major complaint about the G as well. Everyone complains about the front bumper, mines fine, my problems is the leading edge of the hood and doors...I even have one on my trunk lid! My front bumper however is getting replaced for other reasons. I think the paint job on it was estimated to be 2-300 (I don't have the estimates anymore) for about $750 total.

silver and white are great choices, you won't regret.

I'm playing with the whole paint idea as well, but I'll first have to work the body kits on, etc.

I was thinking metalic lime green or a burnt orange, similar to the 350Z

But I think that may be a bit much, you'll look good in white for sure, I'm just playing with ideas right now.

I love black, so I might just keep it as is, and paint the kit when it all arrives

Who knows...

I'm yet to get some quotes, as I haven't picked a front end yet, and I'm still on the fence with the side skirts, I have a rear bumper cover and mudflaps off an 05, just waiting for everything to come together I guess.

Oh, and I'm broke as hell.

What ever you decide, do not use Nissan/Infiniti brand paint.

I second that. Nissan/Infiniti paint is pretty awful. I have chips galore on my bumper, front part of hood and doors. I don't understand how luxury cars like ours can be sold in good faith by a company knowing the problems with paint quality. It's shameful and has been going on with Nissan for years even back when I owned a '89 Maxima. I wonder if the new "self-healing" paint on the EX and '09 G's will be better.

My buddy has a '01 Volkswagon GTI and takes the same route to work I do and he hardly has any chips on this car...and his car has 100K miles whereas mine has 27K.

I've considered it as well solely based on the fact that the Nissan paint sucks. If I repainted, it would be the color that I really wanted but was discontinued--the navy blue from 04--from a different company, just color matched.

If you go with white, I'd suggest the Ivory pearl. I think flat white would look horrible on a G.

The pearl paint job will probably cost upwards of $2k. Especially since it's a full color change versus a repaint. The factory pearl has 3 coats of pearl on top of the ivory.

Yeah I have the Ivory Pearl and i absolutely love it but i had to get my door fixed from a dent from the previous owner and it cost $750 because they had to blend the color and the body shop said its a very tricky color to paint.. so if you choose pearl white then know what your getting yourself into haha.. other than that i wouldnt trade it for anything
