I am putting my shifter back in my S14 and am stuck. I understand the order of installing the snap rings but am puzzled why the snap ring w/eyelets (last to go on) won't fit in the groove in the shifter housing.

I've installed the lower spring washer, then the shifter bushing followed by the shifter itself. I put in the c snap ring next and now it's time for the snap ring w/eye holes. It's to small now (?) to snap in. I don't understand, i can just lay it on top everything and not be attached. I remember how I took it off and it was above the c ring and literally snapped in.

What am I not getting people?

Here's a pic showing the snap ring w/eyelets just resting on top of shifter, not installed.(c snap ring installed)

There's a groove in the very back of the shifter housing... grab something with a narrow tip and spin that ring around till its one level lower than it is now

Push the nylon bushing down so its flat and there should be a groove the snap ring slides into. You may need a extra hand or a good sturdy pair of snap ring pliers.

You sure that nylon bushing does not go the other way around?By that I mean upside down. I have removed and installed my stock shifter a few times, and never really had to do anything special. I did not exert a lot of force to press the snap ring down into it's groove. Just a suggestion.

There's no way for that nylon bushing to get flipped, unless the shifter came apart, that looks like its the right way
