Recently bought an 02 altima with the bose system. Come to find out the only thing left is the bose amp, bose head unit and a couple aftermarket speakers. Should I go all new aftermarket stuff or should I revert and put the bose speakers back in it. (if aftermarket, what are good speakers)

Go with aftermarket. You will be happier in the end

Upfront I'd go with a set of DLS RS6sIn the rear doors a set of DLS 5.25sIn the rear deck another set of DLS RS6s

If you don't want subs I'd put a set of Tangband 6x9" subs in the rear deck. They'll give you a decent amount of bass, but not too overpowering

do you know of a good website to order the DLS speakers? I am having trouble finding them online.

How about an amp to power these speakers. anyone know of a good 6 channel amp to power some full range speakers.

DLS R6A. This is the newer reference series.

DLS 425. This is technically a coaxial, but it has an outboard crossover. So I'd consider it a component set.

For the rear deck, if you want to preserve trunk space, I recommend the TangBand W69-1024j. They're a direct drop in. They don't need a box to perform well, but if you have the space behind each speaker I'd build about a 1ft^3 box and port it to ~35hz. This will get you about 110dB(before cabin gain) @ 30hz.

Each sub will require about 100w RMS.

So you're looking at about 75w x 4 channels. Or 100w x 2 and ~50w x 2. And then 100w x 2 for the subs.

For the main speakers I'd go with a Hifonics Titan TX8805 for the mains

MA Audio HK798 for the 6x9 subs. I use two of these amps for my subs. One for each sub. they put out about 500w RMS in bridged 4ohm mode, not the claimed 800w RMS

DLS R6A - $123.00

DLS 425 - $78.00

TangBand W69-1042J - $93.58

Hifonics TX8805 - $149.00

MA AUDIO HK798 - $129.50

Total = $725.50

Add in shipping, handling, and wiring.

If this is too much all at once I suggest doing the front and rear door speakers and the amp for them. That'd cost $350 plus shiping and wiring. This portion will give you the most dramatic increase in performance. The addition of 6x9 subs will just clear up the sound of everything and allow it to play louder.

wow...thanks man...this setup sounds great. Do you have an altima?

My only concern with all of this is that i haven't heard of hardly any of these brands. Are they very reputable? The amps seem like a bargain for the power they put out....are they good amps?

Another note, i noticed at crutchfield.com, i was very limited as to what fit into my stock locations in an 02 altima. Will all of these fit?

I also noticed that the tang band 6x9's are for 8 ohms? I didnt see that the amps were at 8 ohms?, will this still work?

Sorry for all the questions man, i just want to do it right this time and be done with it. Thanks again for all of the great advice.

First the brands:

DLS is, and has been, the reigning sound quality champion in car audio competitions for many years.

The Hifonics amp is decent. It's not spectacular, but it'll put out plenty of clean power.

The MA Audio amp is, honestly, a "flea market" amp. But I use two of them in my own setup for sub duty.

Tang Band is very reputable among home DIYers. Also, I can understand your concern for the tang bands being 8 ohms. The MA amp should theoretically be able to put out ~100w RMS x 2 channels at 8 ohms, but I would wire the two 6x9s in parallel for a 4ohm load. Then bridge the MA amp. This will give you about 500w RMS available to the subs. More then enough to pop the cones right out of the basket if turned up too loud
