For Dennis, I think I remember you saying you had seen the techs at T3 ground the MAF externally. From what part of the MAF to what part of the body?
Thanks to this group (Dennis in particular), I had an idea of what was probably happening when my Q45 developed an intermittent unstable idle this week. It started to hunt from an indicated 200 to 900 rpm, mostly on warm starts, sometimes at lights. The exhaust also started to smell of H2S. (In the early days of carburetted, catalyst-equiped cars, that meant too lean an idle mixture for the cat.)
Sure enough, wiggling the MAF connector either caused the bad idle to happen or smoothed it out when it was happening. I cycled the connector today, and the idle returned to rock-steady, so it looks like some sort of auxiliary ground is in its future.
