Hello all,

It might have been posted already (but I am having trouble searching), and was wondering if re-charging the air conditioning system is a straight-forward process, and if I could just buy a can of that Refrigerant and do it myself.

I would do an AC leakdown test first. I think they sell kits at most automotive stores. See if there is a leak, plug it and then top up with refrigent.

Hi all again,

...so I have checked the fuse and it is fine. I turned on the A/C and ran it at max setting. I got out and can see that the A/C compressor is not engaging. I do not see any loose wires and the fuse is good. In fact I pulled the fuse and immediately the blower shut off. Replacing the fuse brings the blower back on. By the way, I read the reverse-side of the little fuse compartment door and it directs me to view the center row of fuses and check the forward-most fuse location holding a 7.5 amp fuse. This is the one I pulled and checked, and replaced.

What do you think I should check next to see why the compressor is not running?

Thanks again guys and gals.

On most cars too high or too low head pressure will do that.My guess is a leak and to low a pressure.

Hi Yoda,Do you mean that if the system is lacking refrigerant, the system will not allow the compressor to kick in?

thats what will happen cause there are high pressure sensors that are checking for refridgerent pressure and if there isnt enough then the ecu wont engage the compressor clutch. right now im in auto mechanics school at my local technical institute and i just finished AC class so if that doesnt work then you could have an issue with a relay or switch not working. or if everything else is good then a wiring issue. as yoda said do you have a leak? if you do, fix it asap cause water can damage the system and can easily cost you alot of money you dont want to spend.

Thank you kindly for the info. I will check for leaks as well. I am pretty sure that if I have one, it must be small. I hadn't driven the car at all for the past few years and it had cold air a year ago.
