I went to my local dealer for a oil change. I was told my car needed to have the car's computer recalibrated. Is there anyone who had to have this done or was the dealer trying to make money?

Should be free of charge since the car is still under warranty, right?

How did the dealer determine that your car need recalibration? Test drive or computer connection?

Yeah we really need more basic details from your dealer, then we can discuss it. At the very least, you should have been told what issue the re-program was meant to address - i.e. why did they reprogram the computer? The computer controls a million different aspects of your vehicles operation, so the general statement "it was reprogrammed" doesn't tell us much. I'd suggest giving them a quick call back, and just ask why they did what they did. At least get them to tell you what component was affected, such as the engine (idle perhaps?), CVT transmission operation, etc..?

We're all very curious as to what's going on here, if you can get more details it would be apprecaited, then we can discuss a little more detail.

He instructed me that it was part of my 12 month service. I told him I didn't need re-calibrating. The car was not checked he told me it as I was filling out the paperwork for the oil change.

I think the dealer is trying to make money. I have the full maintenance schedule for the Rogue here from my dealer and under the 12 month (#2 Maintenance) there is no computer re-calibration listed. There would be no need for this unless you noticed a huge performance change in your car.

Thanks for the info. I suspect that the dealer is trying to make money. My car runs fine. He didn't inspect the car just told me my computer needed re-calibrating when I walked into his office.

did you get your tires rotated? maybe he meant to relearn the tire positions.. or maybe he's just a typical scum service advisor.. did they try selling you a blinker fluid refill?

I only had a oil change. He told me I needed a re-calibrated computer when I walked in. He tried to sell me 12 month service and a re-calibrated computer. That was the extent of our discussion. I already had the 12 month service.
