RD28t diesel (importer needed) in 87' Wrangler

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

READ BEFORE YOU POST or FLAME!OK everyone here's the story...When I first bought the jeep it had a 4.2L I6 2bbl crap engine. A year later I junked it and built a monster 4.6L I6 Stoker motor that would give a built v8 a run for its money. Unfortunately it's not running now and I'm tired of the US motors . So I came up with the idea of a high mpg diesel. Started looking around at small US diesels and then I ran across a JDM diesel motor that in many ways is similar to my RB25DET, The RD diesel series. They are a mechanical turbo diesel so it wouldn't be a wiring nightmare. All that is needed is a custom drive shaft, mount fab., exhaust fab., and a new tank to start kicking. So far I know they are found in the Nissan Patrol Y60. How common they are I do not know. If I cant find a manual turbo version then I'll settle for the N/A ones commonly found in the Laurel's.If anyone knows of a reliable importer that can get their hands on one instead of me searching the web for one please let me know. 4WD is a plus! Before you complain. This build is for the MPG & torque of the diesel's, not the HP. This wrangler is NOT lifted or muddy (it's only on 28's), it's only used for cruising on the highways and local roads.AND before you say anything about it being custom or difficult please know that I have and RB25det and loads of welding and fabrication experience.

Have you checked venus-auto? They seem to have the largest variaty of imported engines. Can't say they have the best quality first hand though.

Unsure of the year/models they come in because of the lack of info that's stateside.Just make sure they tell you becasue there's a big diff. in price.

With the mpg's and torque I can't see why they wouldn't ship them here...There's a big market for small turbo diesels in the US.

Not as bad as me contemplating on throwing my 240's old KA24de in with my RB's old t28 turbo.

Aww... just one letter off.I've acctually seen the RD with the auto transmission. It's been reposted like 4 times over the past few months.I've actually been looking using my spare ka24de. I've found out that the D21 nissan trucks had a ka24e with 4wd transmissions and the same bolt pattern. The transfer case front driveshaft is even on the left side.I have the recirc valve and turbo left over from my RB so I would only need to fill in the spaces.

I was wondering if the front drive shaft was going to fit for you. I was also wondering if you had seen anything about a RWD 5-speed that would hook up to it in case ll the can get me is an auto?

Man if my D21 was 4wd with the right tranny I would be so close to getting one of the stck RD28s.

The RD28's have the same bolt pattern as the RB's. The z32 transmission with the adapter for the RB will bolt up. You can even use the skyline clutch or the 300zx. I know this because someone swapped a r33 rb25det s1 into their patrol with the rd28's 4wd transmission. It's somewhere on the net. Very detailed pictures and measurements.

Also, all you need to do to add a turbo to the rd28's is get the rd28t's fuel pump and manifold. You can even use a huge Holset turbo!

The skylines AWD transmision might be an option but it would need a custom oil pan for the front diff and some way to gear it down for it to be useful.Or maybe you can swap another AWD axle setup from a USD vehicle.

Ya I Emailed STC Friday night late so hopefully they will respond by Monday.

Hmm, I wonder how hard it would be to convert a 240 to AWD Diesel powered AWD 240 has a nice ring too it, lol.

I was wondering though if you had run across how much boost they usually put to an RD? And maybe stock pressures?

LOL, Didn't see this before. You know I've actually been thinking about this for my S14. Turbo and all the tubing and the injectors out of a stock SR20 and a re done ECU by Emenace and no problem hitting 200hp (Hopefully). Anyway a 200hp DD is all I really want out of the S14. The S13, well its getting an RD28t with a giant turbo .

Oh ya i looked into the AWD 240 do able but i cant afford it right now maybe after i get the RD. Then I'll worry about getting it to stop bunny hopping.

I can imagine that with the torque of the RD the 240 will think it was a jack rabbit in a previous life and want to get back to its roots, lol.

I don't know the stock pressure but some of them have cranked it up to 20 psi with the stock setup. Lots more with a larger turbo.

All right just got off the phone with STC rep. and he said he didn't think that he could get a t or ti, but he was going to call Japan and check, I'm assuming some time to night while there a wake , but he did say he sent me an E-mail but haven't received it I'll wait a while. I asked him if he could get the engine in a standard, but he sad no, oh well.

Anyway if your still thinking about using the ATESSA AWD tranny heres a link that might help.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATTESA

I think they used it in some SUVs so maybe you could get the front diff from one of those.

PS hey what kind of flange does that t28 you got have?

It's a T3. The compressor seal has a small leak but its fixable, I think.

Really you thought about selling it cheap? And describe the leak, and is there any shaft play? Your T28 might be just what I'm looking for for my DD build, as in small and cheap .
