Well, it's been a long time coming, but the first dyno of the RBFD has been completed. The tune isn't perfect because we ran out of time and had some issues with the wastegate, but other than that, things worked out okay.

The car made it's initial first ever run at 12PSI and made about 430rwhp. Keep in mind, this wasn't a tuned 12PSI, but an untuned run. By the end of the tuning, it was pushing ~480rwhp with a steady 11:1 AFR.

But, 12PSI is lame so boost was added. We tried for some mid 30PSI runs but the wastegate was acting up. Basically, it was not holding anything past 26PSI. I'm going to have to call up Turbonetics on Monday and find out WTF this is all about. Regardless, we were able to make 710rwhp (750 in Dynojet worlds) at 26PSI. Chart and vid are here:

Better vids to come but here is an initial one:http://www.gtchannel.com/content.php?cid=5312

First question.. how many hours did he charge you for?

Are you happy with your base map now? Or does that still need a little tweaking for higher boost levels? Do AFR levels shift at all on higher boost settings... or if you dial them in at 11:1 at 12psi.. do they stay there for 40 psi?

Anyhow.. nice stuff!

I had a blast watching your jet engine. That video does a nice job of capturing the sound of the engine and exhaust (lower range stuff), but it really doesn't quite pick up how freaking rediculous that turbo and wastegate are when they are screaming.

Gotta love the sound of the RB. How's the AEM working out for you?

wow, laggy as ****, but some serious power made. Is it stroked or still a 2.6?

It's definitely laggy. It's a GT4202 turbo so it's got a HUGE A/R turbine housing. I was fully expecting lag so that's what the nitrous is for.

They guy only charged me for 4 hours which was nice since he did a lot of screwing around with other stuff throughout the day. The fuel map is pretty good too from 12 PSI through 26 PSI but after that, we weren't able to tune it.

The AEM is working good for now. I've got the upgraded cam trigger wheel but I haven't installed it yet. Not sure if I'm going to need to or not but I will eventually just to be safe.

The engine is still 2.6L and with the short stroke, it doesn't make too much torque.

The car is pretty stupid on the road. I took it for a drive yesterday and without drag radials, it would be pointless to boost. Even with them on, they are still screaming all the way through 3rd.

Time to find the boost issue though and get that fixed. Next tune I'm going to schedule at AMS in Chitown though.

look at 6k -> 7k rpm hp jump doubles... this is straight up a highway whore. good to hear you got a great result so far; let's see you hit 900hp

Yes, this car is not going to be good for much except drag racing and highway pulls. It was a purpose built car so it will be good for exactly what I designed it to do.

Once boost hits, it's just dumb but it does put a grin on your face.

The pulls were started with 110 and then finished up with 116. I'm sure I could run pump gas at the 12PSI setting, but I won't run anything other than 110/116 in it if I want to get on it.

Im building my rb26 just about the same way. Do you have a sump in the back of the head? What does your ati dampner look like? Did you have it custom made? How many pulleys does it have? Did you have ati put the dry sump drive on the dampner? Do you have any pics of your dry sump setup im getting close to doing mine once I get my other 240 done.

Nope.

Like a damper.

Same as stock.

No, it's an add-on that is available from ATI

None readily available. It's your typical dry sump though. Three scavange lines off the pan and one pressure line out of the reservoir.

I imagine it looks like this:

And the setup probably looks similar to this:

thats off rbtally's rb25 I was looking for one off of a rb26. If i can figure out the order number of somebody who custom orderd an ati dampner with just the inside pulley and a drysump drive at the end i would be set. But i have my custom order sheet filled out for ati im just waiting for the shop whos building my lower end to become an ati dealer. Then i wount have to pay 800 for the dampner. I tryed getting ati to look up when they built his dampner but i dont know his full name so the person i was working with from ati was no help. Thanks for the pics though.

The idle rumbles like a V8 but when you get on it, it's all RB.

Thanks Seth for posting my wide azz trying to D-of-Hazzard out of the car window.

I can let you know when we're heading to Chitown next for the dyno. Andy (RB26 Z32) wants to meet up too. That would be a more tolerable trip than heading up to WI.

Have you taken a look at how the AEM is syncing with the CAS?

Under "sync errors" mine will range from 0-15 at idle. I wonder what yours looks like.

I haven't yet. I'm also preparing to install the new crank trigger wheel too so hopefully that will smooth things out all across the board.

Update:

I've been in touch with Turbonetics and upgraded my NewGen wastegate to the HP NewGen which I was promised would do the trick. Apparently, there is too much back pressure in the manifold and it's literally forcing the wastegate open. The HP version is designed for these lower displacement engines that rely almost solely on boost for power.

That being said, I think it's almost time for another dyno session to see if we can hit quadruple digits with this bish.
