So I bought an hy35 for my rb20 but never ended up using it. I'm working on an rb30 slapper right now and i was thinking of trying the hy on it.

All the info I've been gathering has said that the 7 blade hy/hx compressor wheel can flow up to 60 lb/min! Thats almost 500 hp! I'm looking for 350-400 whp. Some other guys here on nico said the hy35 didn't spool on their rb20s till ~4k. It also looks like the dsm guys use those BEP housings (.55 a/r and .7 a/r are common) on their hx35s effectively making them similar to an hy35 i imagine; the 9cm turbine ~ .65 a/r from what ive read.

Do you think the turbine housing on it is too small to flow for my needs? Seems kinda odd holset would make a turbo that chokes itself out... But i guess it might. I'm only gonna be revving to 6500. There's too much damn heresay over the holsets i find.

Thoughts?

gonna hit hard and fast, you might want to go with a larger housing then.

Torque/spool monster :) . Think it'll become restrictive before 6500 rpm? I think I'm gonna try it. God damn money pit...

Everyone always focuses on compressor maps/sizing but there's little info on how it ties in with the turbine sizing. Wish i knew more about it.

more like drift event just going to the corner store...might run out of puff before 6500 but its hard to tell, those turbos are incredibly well engineered.

That thing would be a blast to drive.... All torque on tap, all the time! Probably make all the V8 240 guys jealous :)

Not sure how it would do in terms of the hotside, but my guess is not too bad especially if you are keeping it below 6500.

Hmmmmm. As long as it doesn't run out of puff I'll be quite happy. Might order a HX35 or HX40 in the meantime just incase.

Keep in mind the power band is affected by the exhaust and intake manifolds as well.

What intake manifold and head and exhaust manifold are you going to run? Aren't you using RB25 NA top end?

Yes.

Stock RB20 exhaust manifold. And the stock RB25DE intake manifold of which the bottom half has slightly smaller ports than the RB25DET, but larger than the RB20.
