rb26dett water temp. ?

I am currently doing a rb26dett swap in my s13, someone told me that I had to change my water temp sensor from the rb26dett to with the ka water temp sensor, to make the temp on the cluster work correctly, is it true?

also I compared both sensors and the plugs aren't alike.

i swpped my rb sensor for a ka sensor and saw no difference. the sensor in question is the single wire temp sensor for the gauge, not the 2 pin one for the ecm.
