If you cant understand why an RB26DETT is so exspensive or why it takes alot of money to put in, you probably should've searched a little harder, or you dont even need one in the first place.... Theres a huge ****ing FAQ page at the top, and if you dont understand the $$$ signs and those mean... man you're in for a hard road ahead.

::End ****ty mood::

why is it so expensive..hmm

well first of all, the engine is gonna run you 2500-3500 for JUST a complete engine/wiring/turbos/sensors. you MIGHT get the FMIC with that. maybe. lets say you dont, because odds are you wont.

FMIC - 500$

then you need a RB25 transmission - 1500

then you need mounts. - 700$

then you need a driveshaft - 200$

then you need downpipes - 500$

so in JUST parts you are at 7200$.

that dosent even include wiring, or fans, or a clutch, or any of the other 10,000 things that will come up during the swap.

expect a minimum of 8,000$ to do a rb26 swap. and after that 8000$ you have a whole whopping 250whp.

BTW this is covered in the "whats needed to swap" sticky.

You didn't search hard enough because I have found answers to everything you just asked.(I've been researching the rb25 and rb26 for a while and just lack the funds to start doing one)

motor sets are gonna start around $4000 and just go u from there (some times good deals can be found but be weary)

The transmission, oil pan, and dump pipes are the biggest problems.

There are 3 ways to deal with the transmission problem:

1) use the rb25 box, about a grand on top of the cost of the motor set, and iirc you have to use the rb25 oil pan)

2) cut off the hump off the rb26 box and remove the chain that drives the front output and have a plate welded on to patch the hole

(3 cut a hole in the floor of the car to clear the hump on the rb26 box.

(the clutch is an issue to if you use the 26 box search if you want to know what it is)

Oil pan has 2 solutions:

1) use the rb25 pan and cut the baffling to clear the rb26 oil pick up, pound a dent and file a few of the bolt holes for clearance(search for exactly what)

2) cut the diff off the rb26 pan and use some spacers on the sway bar so it will clear the pan(once again search for more info)

The dump pipes also can be solved 2 ways:

1) Call mckiney(sp) motor sports and order their rb26 in s chassie(sp) down pipe

2) make your own (search for its been covered)

On top of all that you have to have mounts, intercooler with piping(proably gonna have to make your own piping), exhaust, wiring, drive shaft, and a lot of things I'm to tired to think of right now, but expect to have spent $10,000+ when its all said and done.

Good luck

so i should stick to the rb25det eh....

im taking a friend of mines automotive class hes a good friend and thought that it wouldnt be hard for us to get a rb26 going... since he can do all the cutting and welding... but seems its not worth it if the rb25 is around there anyway

Why do all the new guys have this misconception that the GTR, or any skyline motor for that matter, is the end all be all to motor swaps? It has 300-some hp at the flywheel, wow (no offense to those RB26 guys). If you even want to get 350-450hp out of an RB25 reliably, it'll set you back around $8-10,000 minimum. There's no magic fairy dust to getting a 400+hp turbo motor into an S-chassis for under $8,000 without going with a smallblock V8.

hahaha I'm the biggest dreamer here...I dream of getting my car out of the garage after 11 months of being "under construction". I am tired of looking at an empty shell of a car every day.

Damn Kamin, $8K? I'd say at least 10K from what my firend did to get his Rb26 in...

All I can say is no matter how well you plan your project, your always going to have to spend some extra money. Its pretty much up to your resourcefulness on how much extra that is. I had a $6000 budget, and this was my outcome.

1990 240sx hatch - $700 + $100 in gas to drive the truck and trailer to pick it upWalbro 255lph fuel pump- $105Test pipe - $75Nismo FPR - $130Aluminum Driveshaft - $500 (Driveshaft Shop, thats the name of company)New Batt - $110R33 K-Frame from 5-speed GTS-T w/lsd $505 (shipping was $155)2 - Mustang Cobra wheels+Tires - FREE2 - 8 inch fans+temp switch - $15095-99 Maxima MAF - $65RB25DET SII Motorset- $2600 R33 GTS-T Gauge cluster - $65HKS 60mm boost gauge - $60FMIC HYBRID - $4256 - Irridium 1 step colder pulgs - $65Oil Filter - $4Fuel Filter - $7Random metric bolts and nuts - $30Core Motormounts - $3405qts 5w-30 Penzoil (dino) - FreeAbout $50 worth of broken drill bits, saw-s-all blades and $hit that I broke being pissed off.

Total: $6086

Granted I could have done alot of things cheaper, like no FMIC, just the R33 LSD, steel driveshaft. But I'm buliding this car for an eventual 600whp.(would have replaced the timing belt, but I just cant get takara motors to send me what I paid for 2 months ago)

Still need to pay for inspection, tags, new windshiled and sideview mirror.

Smiley, if you can take the time to shop around for the parts and fabricate some of your own stuff, im sure you could make it for under $8k. But you would have to watch ebay and every RB/Skyline forum in the US and Australia for 1-100 years to pick up all the parts.
