does anyone here know if swapping a RB26DETT into a JDM 180SX is any easier than a NA 240SX?

Should be the same, as they have *almost* the same body style.

Well you wouldn't have the issue with the turbos hitting the steering shaft anymore.

well, the fact that its RHD should have made that pretty obvious.

Well yeah it should have but... um... I just kind of felt like re-stating the obvious.

but im from Canada EH! where we outlaw all the good cars, cept Supra, Evo 8, STi, and NSX

but yeah aside from TT/streering columb problem... is there any upper hands to installing a RB26DETT into a JDM 180SX over a 240SX...... i really wanna make this 4WD but i heard there's alot of custom work on the 240SX and thats ur better off using a transmission off a RB25DET but does it also apply with the 180SX?

if you have a RB26DETT then you need a RB25DET transmission to work it in the S13, i also think that you may not have to cut your hood because the intake mani doesnt go over the top

Ask on RB25DET.org. If your going to spend that much money, get a damn skyline. AWD 180 vs. Skyline

i really dont think it would cost that much. there is a ton of nissans. somethins got to fit.. the transmission might need more room or sumthin. i wish i had some extra money because i would put all the speculation to rest

i live in CANADA.. were we're not cool enough to get skylines... well now that its 2004 we can get 89 r32's .. about 20,000 - 25,000 CDN.. up here we can only import cars older than 15years to the month... weak huh.. and im not a but fan on the looks of the R32

Meggala

Another one from the same...

McKiney Motorsports has an RB26DETT mount kit. It should work just fine for the JDM 180sx but don't quote me as I have never tried to do the swap. McKinney Motorsports

THE RB26DETT transmission CAN BE USED IN EITHER AWD OR RWD MODE SO YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY A RB25DET TRANS. IF YOU GET A RB26 AND PLAN ON GOING AWD BUY A R32 COMPLETE FRONT CLIP AS ALL THOSE PARTS WILL SWAP OVER TO THE S13 CHASSIS AS THEY ARE THE SAME CHASSIS. THIS WILL MAKE AWD EASIER AND YOU'LL HAVE ALL THE PARTS NESSACARY.

Fascinating. I'll keep all of that info in mind. But isn't it more prudent to switch to the RB25DET Trans. if you do the swap? Otherwise your wasting some potential power...

the power is lost due to the parasitic drag of the front diff, driveshaft, and axles.

even if you kept it RWD, the only disadvantage of the rb26dett trans is the excess weight.

THE TRANSFER CASE IS A PASS-THROUGH STYLE THAT ONLY ENGAGES WHEN THE COMPUTER TELLS IT TOO. ITS JUST 30LBS EXTRA WEIGHT BUT A STRONGER transmission. NOW IF YOU GOT A R34 6SPD FOR SOME MIRACULOUS REASON CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY!

in my stupid times I've thought about RB26... I like the idea of revving to 8-9k rpms(though i know a CA and an RB20 will do that too...)

I think it'd be a tight tight fit tho even with the battery moved to the back...

It's probably one of the hardest installs you can do for your S13. :D

I have seen an rb 26 in an s13 rhd though and not a photo fitted fine and the bonnet closed it did have a single t66 turbo on their though. the 25 trans is easier but its doable with the 26 trans.4wd is a huge head ache I ahvent seen one done and I ahve ben looing the only way yu could possibly do it is buy using a front cut from a 4wd cefiro as they use similar suspension to the s13.no I have measured one up I have only seen on 4wd cefiro in the flesh and they was only brieflymeggala
