Definitely good swap information here, but I'm a little skeptical about the front suspension and its ability to handle the torque from decent hp. On GTRs there is an upper wishbone on the strut assembly to resist twisting and movement. Isn't most of the force from a drive wheel going to be placed on the front tension rod and welded sleeve on the strut housing that the knuckle attaches to with those two bolts?

HI Darius, good observation, but I do believe all the rotational torque is indeed absorbed by the upper and lower attachments of the knuckle. The lower is stock GTR, the upper is a piece of 1" solid square steel welded to the machined taper for the upper king pin. I am quite certain that the steel wont fail. The weld is going to be the weakest link in the arrangement. Moving forward now that we have found that this all works correctly I would machine the whole stub from one solid piece of stock for my future swap. But I do appreciate any suggestions and concerns. I am looking for any improvements I can make on this. Or possibly as has been suggested to me in an earlier reply is to look into the use of Maxima or altima front knuckles.

thanks

Well that would be very cool, how would I do that? My company is in the graphics business and we are working on a wrap design for it now. So after that is done in the next couple of weeks. I would love to see that happen. I am very surprised at the level of interest that this car has generated. thank youjoe

Not quite. But it is one of the few that have adapted the McPherson Strut in the front.

Here is one a bit eariler.

I really love the cluster you fabbed up. I'm going to do something similar. Can you explain how you did it?

here is a link to my album, on picasa, you can find in it a group of pics for how I cut the 2 clusters apart. But in essence, I cut the back/circuit boards out of both, then reshaped them to fit into the housing. In the end, it has not worked out as planned. I have yet to get the speedo cable to fit in behind the cluster. So the overall reason for doing this was to use the r32 cluster and keep the speedo intact. I think this winter though I am going to rebuild a number of things on this build up and this will be one of the areas I address. If you look back in the pics on this post you will see the knuckles that we fabbed up to put the S13 struts onto the r32 knuckles. Well after a summers hard driving on 285/35/18 michelins they both cracked. So they are know at a metal fab shop and hopefully getting remade correctly, not cobbled together like originally. though they did work just as hoped for. I want them stronger. Hi,

Fantastic build... I was wondering how you got on with the S13 struts onto the r32 knuckles mod? Did you get new ones made and how did they go?

Also what is your opinion on the disadvantaged and the advantages from a setup/geometry against the original Muilti Link setup.

Joe i also read you where looking at the 4WD split and at a mod... how did that go?

I just showed my kids a picture of your car in the weeds and one with the truck skin graphics on it(after). My wife(kids too) used to bash my car that came outta the weeds for $1200 and now its a built rb26 and looks amazing. More than anything I love the before and after of your car...lots of quality work went into this and it came out great. Awesome car! If I personally seen you car roll by I would go to truckskin.com for sure. (specially with the bad a** rb showing haha)
