I am trying to figure out what clutch most people use when they use the rb25 transmission with their rb26 motors that will handle a decent amount of power (planning on 500-525whp, but wouldn't mind a clutch that would handle a bit more). From what I have gathered, no rb26 clutches will work with this transmission. Thanks for any info.

oh and by the way, this is my first post here and aparently I am a "NICO Newbie" because my primary forum is my350z.com. Ahh its been so long since I've a newbie

what's happening newbie! Well first off is that transmission a rb25 s1 or s2? they need two different type clutches. pull or puch type i think the pull is for r34 rb25.

Wow you're from Lenoir thats awesome. I'm actually from Hickory, but I live in Raleigh mostly now going to NCSU for the past few years. Random.

Anyways...it is (or will be I guess) an S1 transmission from a R33 GTS.

incorrect

the R33 RB25 had S1 and S2 engines but the same transmission (push)

the R34 RB25 was all S2 and a pull type clutch.

Alright, so I realize that I need a clutch specific to my R33 transmission that is push type, but my main question is what clutch is generally used to hold the power levels I am looking at? If I can not spend the money on a twin-disc clutch and stick with some sprung single disc that would be great.

Right now I have a RPS Max Series Sprung 6-puck clutch on my 350z that has 480rwhp and I love it, but others have said that it starts to slip sometime after 500whp. So just looking for other clutches that will hold similar power and not slip in the 500whp range.

go twin plate

never worry about it. your playing with big power, its gonna start getting super expensive to put that power down and hold it there.

damn I was hoping that wasn't going to be the response....guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Any specific clutches that anyone is familiar with that is popular?

I just put a Centerforce Dual Friction in mine, havent broken it in yet, but I know two people who use them. One has a 600whp turbo mustang and the other has a 400whp turbo coupe. They use them for drag racing and the clutches hold great.

The dual friction has weights on the pressure plate that work with centrifugal force. The faster the motor spins, the harder the pressure plate presses the clutch against the flywheel. Oh, it feels stock when it engages when driving "normal".

Clutch $278.50 + throwout bearing $42.09

I don't see where they make one for anything but the R34 RB25 pull-type...but they do make it for the 90-96 300ZX NA.

Sounds like a really good deal, but I wonder if a clutch spec'd for a 300ZX NA would ever hold enough power?

I doubt that clutch will hold more than 500wtq, if their "90% more than stock" estimate is right. But that's just my guess. I know my stock Exedy NA Z32 clutch (on an RB20) started slipping as I neared 300whp...

Well heres what I figured out,

Stock Mustang 1988: 225hp 300 ft lbStock 300zx N/A 1996: 222hp 198 ft lb

90% over stock on the mustang is 570 ft lb at the crank and my boys mustang is pushing 650+ ft lb to the wheels.

If centerforce made a clutch specific to the RB25 it would still be the same part# as the 300zx n/a.

I cant vouch for the centerforce dual friction application of the 300zx n/a, since I only have about 300 flywheel hp.

I was still correct. I never said the r33 s1 or s2 needed the pull type. He didn't state till after my post that is was a r33 transmission. Also i said i think the r34 rb25 transmission was the pull type. I'm not bit***** or anything. My bad i didn't state the r33 had both s1 and s2 motors. but thanks for making it clearer for me.

thanks rustbucket and everyone else...I guess for $300 it is at least worth a try. If it starts slipping I can always sell it to someone on here who has a rb20/rb25 and needs clutch that just isn't stock and then pickup a twin disc of sorts. I am sending payment for my RB26 this afternoon, so I guess I will pick up a clutch in the next couple of weeks.

Thread hijack is all good...my question is answered

Thanks man, the Z has been a long time coming (2.5 years now). I should be back up in Hickory Dec 18th or 19th most likely. I think it was the jetta you were in, cause I def don't remember a grey supra. Hit me up on here sometime around christmas. Later.

im using the Spec stage 3+ clutch wich is good for 550 pnds of torque on my rb26 w/ rb25 trans and i got mine from phase2 and its a full face sprung disc made of a copper color metal material wich i was told it has no break in time but im still going to break it in anyways.
