Guys:

I am nearing my engine re-install, and haven't yet sorted out my transmission. This has been discussed before, I searched, and cannot find it again. I have directions from a reliable source how to modify the RB26 box for RWD-only application by removing the linkage and transfer assembly. But I remember a shop in the Greater ATL area that had done it before and was offering it as a service. I believe the shop is in Marietta, and no, it's NOT Bottom Hat Performance. Can anyone recall, or is this user still around? I'd be keen on hiring them to do the work. And please don't respond with "why don't you just use an RB25 transmission." I've been down that road before. Thanks in advance.

Scott

Scott, any particular reason you are not using a Z32 transmission with the 26 bellhousing? Just throwing that out there.

Good luck with the hunt.

i have a RB26 transmission apart on my bench right now and i can tell ya that without dismantling it and swapping out the main shaft you may be SOL...i am almost certain that the shafts are different lengths...by removing the transfer case i found the main shaft does not go all the way through like i was told but stops about an inch or so (which is just enough to lock into the transfer case assembly. i am having to do all this cause my RB25 transmission shaved all the teeth off of third YAY!!!

Well, I own the RB26 box already. I see you posted in my other (old) thread too. I'll drop you a line to pick your brain. I just thought that since I owned the RB26 box already, that I'd go the route of modifying it, verses buying a Z32 box (unless of course there's an inordinate amount of time involved cutting the transfer case off and doing all of the internal mods on the RB26 box, making the Z32 box conversion worth the money).

Scott, sorry that other thread was so damn old that I had totally forgotten about it. Let me know if I can help you out. I didn't even realize I had posted in your old thread!!

I can understand using the 26 trannies if you already have a pair, but since the driveshaft will end up specific to that trans definitely keep your "spare". Seems shipping makes these things pretty cashy.

I snagged my z32 trans cheap, right place right time... I keep a spare at this point as well. I justified my z32 trans pretty easily.. the parts are common so if it breaks its not difficult to get a transmission. I do daily my car, so things like this are of importance. Maybe no big deal if it wasn't my primary car.

I actually called the E&E number, and Eric answered. Very nice guy, and helpful. It seems that even after modding the transfer assembly, the transmission still doesn't really fit without "banging the tunnel to clear the transmission." Banging anything on this car is out, so it looks like I'll be in the market for a Z32 transmission very soon...

i believe boostd z did a write up on swapping the gears from one trans shaft to another. i have to guts out of a 26 and was woundering if it's a straight swap to the 25? so i don't have to heat the gears up to pull em off the shafts and stuff.

now i'm lost scott, you have a s14 with a rb26 so why do you need a z32 trans? last i remember you had a rb30 transmission which i thought was the same as a rb20.

RB30E transmission is the same as the RB20DET. RB30ET is the same as the RB25DET. I have an RB30E transmission that's not too happy in life right now, grinding 3rd and reverse. Compounding the problem is the new engine going in will be capable of high 900's in horsepower, by my calculations. I need a very stout transmisison to at least get me down the road before I start thinking dogbox or powerglide, etc.

The push verses pull thing has me pissed off though...that'll need to be adapted too.

Has anyone seen a way to get the 350z 6-speed to an RB motor? I've seen the inside of one before and I think that is built to handle a lot, and I have only seen one adapter plate made for that combo.
