So I am thinking about doing an RB26 swap into my Z33.anyone have any info on this sort of swap? I know there are a couple out there. but how did they do it? is there a kit? does the radiator or core support need to be moved foward? do you need to modify the firewall?or does the motor magicly drop right in?any ideas would be helpfull

there's a member on here doing the swap currently. He had pictures and such here somewhere.

we did one for a customer a few months ago, actualy a fun job.

motor fits snuggly, we made our own mounting system, then we had a guy come out and measure for a drive shaft.we also hade to make our own piping for the FMIC and the down pipe.cost wise:RB26 with RB25 trany $5000-6000 (no real set price on these)oil pan $200 we used an aftermaket one though we ha to modify itintercooler and piping $500apexi exhaust and apexi DP $700 (we tweeked both)power FC was $1000small miss parts that the customer brought uswe charged $1000 for laborto off set the costsold the VQ motor and trany for $4000 other parts from the Z that were not needed he got close to $1500 for

driving the car, the car cornered about the same and stopped about the same.it made decent power, would guess around 450 after we got it tuned

Note from Moderator : You can say what you did, but it costs to advertise on NICO

You certainly don't need to swap motors to do that Too many fanboys thinking the RB is the greatest motor ever.

I just dont see getting big numbers out of a VQ motor with out alot of internal mods. I would like to make about 750hp, I last supra put down that kind of power, (sold it to buy a 911) but I know what it will take to make that kind of power with an RB. I am sure you can get nice numbers with the VQ, but it will cost more, and there's alot of trial and error involved. if I can just drop my car off somewhere and pick it up in a few weeks and go play with the supra club, I am happy

the cost of building an 800 hp vg bottom end is less than purchace price of the RB, and for those power levels the turbo's, injectors, intercoolers and managment are all out the window on both motors, as far as cornering I'd love to see skid pad numbers that don't show a loss of cornering g's, don't get me wrong if you have the money and resources and want to spend your money just because, by all means do, personally I can't justify loosing almost 1/3 of total displacement, I kinda like the idea of the 4.2 stroker

I have been considering a 350 lately myself and to get the kind of speed I have become accoustomed to in my 240 i found that the stock rods would not hold up and I'd be pushing the limits of the stock block, I figurre the best wany to go would be an overbored darton block with forged pistons and rods, the 4.2 stroker would be nice but the added expense of the billit crank was more than money that power gain IMHO, by the time all si sad and done it's a more expensive project than i feel I can tackle at the mment and decided to put it off another year or 2 when I can afford to do it right

yes well I am not buying a VG motor, if I wanted a V6 I would stay with the VQ. I think building up the VQ is still way more expensive, and I dont want to wait for parts. I also have a few parts lying around from my supra, like a turbo , aeromotive fuel pump and regulator, I have already purchased the haltech for this car.

sounds like all you need is a motor set and your ready to go, lol.you will still need other things like a wastegate, BOV, piping, dp, manifold, and injectors.I actualy know a guy down in dallas with an R33 and a similar set up, though running a 60-1, he is putting down around 650. but thats on an RB25. with the RB 26 and say a T78, and cams. you might put down 800+

most off the shelf turbo kits max out at 350-400whp, which is a considerable increase over the 240 whp the out out stock, I think they end there because any more and you're gonne need a built bottom end, from what I have read and heard, kits are anywhere from 5-6k and install is about 1k, different kits with different options can drive that up but for 6k you get pretty inclusive kit with I/C, injectors and managment
