Hey guys,

Fixed my coil pack issue, and now have another issue / question.

What is the normal operating temp for an R33 RB26. Iv heard that Nissans like to run warmer than other imports from dealers and mechanic friends of mine. Was wondering if that was true or not.

I have bled my system, gone for a drive, came back, bled, drove, bled, drove, bled (HEAT CRANKED FOR EVERYTHING) . Whats weird is that the car started getting hotter while driving on the highway and cooled off while idling at home.

The RB26 is swapped into a S14, my coolant temp sensor sender unit attached to my Defi is broken so that doesnt work, but the factory one is still hooked up to my cluster and that does work, but it likes to hover around the 3/4 or 4/5 on the factory s14 cluster gauge. One question is if the stock temp sensor from an rb26 would sync up properly to a S14 cluster gauge.

My AEM series 2 says that im operating at ~82-85*C (179.6 - 185 ºF) on the highway, but while driving around town, the AEM says im running ~68 - 74 *C (154.4 - 164 *F). This cant be normal... or is it???

If anyone could help me out it would be really appreciated.

Thanks

sounds like the thermostat isnt operating properly anything steady inbetween 180-200 is considered normal

i bought the thermostat 3 years ago, the car has been driving maybe 300km (186mi) since installing it. i was thinking the t-stat as well, but its practically still brand new.

it by some chance isnt my tune it is? I always thought that the tune didnt really play affect on temp....

swap out the 1 pin sensor for an s14 ka sensor and the gauge will read 'right'.
my car runs 85*c nominal unless im stuck in traffic in hot weather.

thats actually a great idea Carl H. didnt even think about that.

but I think ill just fix my Defi water temp gauge and have really accurate reading and not be guessing on the stock one.

Appreciate the help guys. ill keep you guys posted.

the one wire sensor isnt were the aem is getting its reading from... the one wire is only for the gauge inside the car

i know the one wire sensor isnt where the AEM is getting the reading from. the aem is getting the reading from the grey plug to the left of the 1 wire.

i want to replace that one wire senor with a 1/8 PT or NPT (dunno what thread it is) defi sensor and connect it to my defi gauge and lust leave the stock gauge not hooked up to anything.

sorry if i wasnt clear before

do what carl said.. replace the 1 wire with a stock s14 ka 1 wire and your cluster will read correctly. while you're at it, take that neck off and drill/tap a new hole for your aftermarket sensor.

normal operating temperature depends on what thermostat you're running. in theory and if your cooling system is up to the task, it should hover aroudn wherever your thermo is. nismo tstat opens at 145 F, which is probably too low. i made the mistake of installing a nismo tstat. the factory one opens at around 170-180 F. Therefore your coolant temp should hover around there. If your cooling system is insufficient, your coolant will creep until it can cool itself down (cold air through the radiator). If you're running pusher fans, that might be why your coolant creeps when you're moving.
