So I am super paranoid about my RB26 oil pressure it being a r32 motor with stock bottom end.
I really dont want to tear into the motor just yet, I would like to replace more than an oil pump/collar to make it worthwhile.

So anyways, I just did an oil change to Castrol Edge 10w-30 oil. We have been getting fairly cold temps here lately (0 degrees celsius) so thats why I choose the 10w30. Normally in the summer I try to run a good 50, or even 60 weight oil, which does seem to up the pressure a bit more. But the manual calls for 30 weight oil, and these are the values I get with a cheap mechanical gauge after a long street drive. (the electric gauge shows similar values)

idle (950rpm): 17psi
2000rpm: ~36psi
3000rpm: ~50 psi
4000+rpm: 70 psi+

Now these numbers seem a bit low to me. The motor runs great and doesnt knock or anything, I have been running it like this for about 2 years. I have been avoiding the rev limiter as much as possible and do not spin high RPMS (under 7500rpm)

The GTR manual calls for :
idle: 21psi
2000rpm: 3 bar 45psi
3000rpm: 4.5 bar 60 psi

Should I stop worrying? Should i change to a 50/60 weight asap?
What do you guys usually get for oil pressure numbers (I know a tomei or Jun pump will spit 30 psi at idle, not really interested in aftermarket pump values, just oem values with higher kms motors)

OK I have determined the best solution is to run either a 10-60 or 15-50 oil.
what weight do u guys recommend.

I run 15-40 Rotella with a Pureone filter...best stuff ever. I've run 15-40 the entire life of our Eclipse and it's pushing on 200k..it's an 01' which supposedly have a short engine life.

keep in mind that those values are for a fresh engine, an older engine will have slightly looser tolerances.
ditch the castrol crap.
personally i run either valvoline or liquimoly stuff in my cars (or customers cars).
a good 10w30 should be just fine for a car that sees street use without an oil cooler...however if it sees abuse or extended track work a cooler and possibly a thicker grade oil may be an option.
i currently run liquimoly's lubromoly 10w40 full synthetic in my 30 and i have about 1.6-1.7 bar oil pressure hot on a warm day, 1.8-2.0 on cold days...

gotcha
so it really is just looser tolerances and possibly a slightly worn pump causing my lower than average oil pressure, but its not too low to worry about yet?
I dont think I need a oil cooler/thicker oil yet, I notice much better gas milage with the 10w-30 and baby the car at this time of the year. I will switch to a heavier weight in the summer when the car sees some abuse.

That oil is way too thick. If you are super worried, throw in some 10w-40 but your numbers are fine for a used motor.

I Run Royal Purple 10w-40 In My Skyline R32 GT-R And It seems to be runing good on it. Before the royal purple i ran Mobil 1 10w-30 and the pressure was fine. :dblthumb:
