Hi all,

New to the forums and I've got a few issues with my RB. Bit of history, I purchased this car about a year ago from a workshop. Its a 2002 S15 Spec R running an r32 RB26DETT with skyline 25T gearbox and standard silvia diff.

The entire engine was rebuilt 3000km with all forged internals, ran perfectly for these 3000km on standard boost.

Problem (1) - All of a sudden I started getting random shuddering and it wouldn't boost...at first I thought crap I've lost a turbo. But the problem is in consistent....will randomly come and go, some times it will last 10 minutes sometimes 2 mins and then sometimes it won't sort itself out altogether until you leave it off for a while.

Problem (2) - The fuel injectors started leaking one day so I replaced them all with stock injectors that had been flow tested and serviced..started up fine but it seems to be missing and back firing way more than it was before.

Problem (3) - So in my solutions to finding the issue for problem (1) I took out the mafs and tried cleaning them up, I think I've accidentally broken one of them as a bit of red colored glass came out of one of the sensor plugs, and I also took out the ECU to have a look at it, this being a veil side version of the stock ECU, I shifted the selector screw around (thinking it was something else)....anyways put it all back together and the mafs back on and went to start it...started up but ran horribly like it was on 3 cylinders then just dies. I did the diagnosis on the ecu and got the error code 41...the AIT sensor...- if the maf is broken would it throw this error or is this a separate issue.

Problem (4)- Since I got the car its always idled high at 1500 I've tried lowering it but can't figure it out...theres no TPS screw or anything like that on the ECU to change.

Update: checked the engine bay again and discovered that the AIT sensor was actually unplugged :O must have forgot to do it when I changed the injectors...engine still won't start though. Would this account for the (41) Error and the misfiring - Problem (2)?

As you can see I have a few issues that need sorting, I love my cars and love working on them...this is the first RB26 I've had so its all a bit of a learning curve. Next car is going be an R33 GTR, I've spent days looking around on the internet for help but can't find anything.

I thank you in advance for any help you can offer. CheerS!

first. check all your boost leaks (rig up a tester and test it) something similar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3Kqh52PC6Q (but you going to have two intake instead of one unless you running one maf)

after all is checked lets check your coils (buy a tool from Autozone its like 7.49$ adjustable ignition tester set it to 30 and every coil should fire) if not check your ignitor( if bad do the swap for j30 ignitor, use the search button to find how, i think i found that thread on this site) http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... ing=search

for your injectors check the pulse on the injectors with noid light (ecm got 2 bank 1,3,5 and 2,4,6 for injectors) so you will need 2 noid lights they are available as a rental tool at autozone http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... ing=search

you should have a drop down resistor for your injectors (check it also, how to check find
fsm for rb26)

after you do all of this let me know what you have ( I am pritty sure your problems will go away after first step which is find the boost leaks) and dont confuse boost leak with vacuum leak

Update:

Thanks for the information, I'll try some of that stuff tomorrow.

well tonight I have my friend come over with his 32 GTR and we switched over the mafs and eliminated that problem as his starts fine with mine and mine still won't start with his. The next thing is we switched the ECU other and still won't start with his one.

It started but ran like @#@$ about 4 days ago and that's when I pulled the MAF and ECU, put them back in and did the diagnosis getting (55) no errors. It started with hesitation and got to like 600rpm then died. I did this a few times but now it won't start at all.

My assumption is maybe the fuel pump has randomly died and that might explain issue (1) how it was randomly running @#@&#* before then normal at other times? Is there any easy way to test the fuel pump.
