hello and good evening...

ran into some problems but got some cleared. at the moment, i am having trouble connecting the motor to the engine mounts, sounds pretty dumb. if i get the passenger side on, the driver side is way off. vice versa if i do driver side. i called mack, he said to mount the transmission mount on first, thing is, the transmission is a bit off.

-first solution i thought of, transmission not pushed in all the way and the firewall was not indent enough (though i took good hits at it for about 5 minutes).

-second, could mounts be wrong... ? possible the engine chain needs to be changed several times to get the motor angled correctly.. ?

please shoot me with some help or any bashing. i am so close.. yet still so far...

btw, the instructions are kind of hard to read at times.

you should try putting it in from the bottom. this might help.

unbolt the crossmember + suspension componants bolted to it, take the crossmember out, bolt the motor mounts to it and then bolt it up to the motor, now get the cars front end as high as it needs to be to slide the motor under it and then lower it, then lift the motor and crossmember into place and bolt the crossmember on ...

bah your engine is already in the bay you dont need to remove it, then remove the crossmember, then try to get it in from the bottom.

just attach the 1 mount loosley and swivel the engine using the 1 mount as a pivot point. it will take some muscle and force but dont be afraid to move it. its not gonna fall into place you have to make it fit. ive had my RB in and out more times than id like to count not to even touch on the TONS of other swaps ive done in the past and thats the quickest way ive been able to get it to sit.

I agree. When placing the RB in the engine bay, it takes a good bit of "persuasion" to get it done.

I mounted my RB26 with McKinney's mounts straight up the first time, but I have done MANY MANY engine swaps in the past. I agree with Kamin's post. Mount the one side, then push/pull on the other side to try to bring it together with the mount.

It may be that your engine is right and the mounts are right, but maybe your car was in a previous accident or something along those lines.....

thanks for the input guys. i have to say i am only weighing about 110lbs with some other heads, we're too weak!! i've done mostly ka swaps before but i guess this motor is just too damn heavy for me to move... thanks for the suggestions, i'll have to start pumpin iron tonight

ok so i finally got the engine mounts on tonight with gawdzillas help.

another thing that we ran into while snuggling the motor,

we f-ed up the sensor wires

as seen in the last 2, heres what it looks like from the transmission

another thing that struck me for the night is gawdzilla brought up that the mounts that bolt up to the engine before the mckinney insolators were different, they look nowhere like this http://store1.yimg.com/I/jspec_1830_5804646 ... could it that would have been the problem in the first place... ?

and also is that sensor repairable, might have to take the motor out again due to the mounts anyway...

yea, tried to help get things to mount yesterday. we finally muscled and pried the motor so it sits in the mounts, but its definitely not happy. the whole motor is twisted counter clockwise (tail of transmission pointed way towards the passenger side).

I am beginning to suspect his motor has different engine mounts (the mounts which attach to the block). his motor did come with a custom rb25 modified pan already, so i'm not ruling out the possibility that his engine mounts could be custom too.

the engine also sits way low, at times resting on the steering rack. is it supposed to get this low ever?

You do not have the orginal aluminum block mount for a rb26dett on your engine, they look like Stagea RB25 or RB20 adapters. Call me so we can maybe get thing straighten out. looks like the mout WAS NOT in a Skyline when removed in Japan.......

YES, that is good to hear Mack! glad it isn't a problem w/ the design of your mounts. when i was up there helping.. i was thinking to myself no way could you design the mounts so off!!

i'm gonna let b-s14 borrow the engine mounts off my 26 for now and see how the motor fits this time around...

I have a pair of the alum motor mounts off the rb26 block just hanging around. I went custom mounts, so if you need them, give me a hollar.....
